Drowned Forest.
The Drowned Forest is located 9 leagues north of Soteropolis starting in the village of Clazos and continuing north along the Ancient Trade Route through the village of Tegila and ending in the village of Isca Harker. The forest continues east 41 leagues bumping the edge of the Socrates Forest. The Socrates river runs on the southern end of the forest with the Ephorates running through forest as well dumping into the Socrates river. This forest at one time was a part of the Socrates Forest until around the year 9980 AD. The three wood elves clans that take care of the Socrates Forest could not save this portion of the forest. The change started in this portion of the forest during the reign of the Black Legion Empire before the The Three wood elf clans fought the Black Legion Empire for for control of the Socrates Forest because of what was going on in Drowned Forest. The wood elf clans spent 30 years trying to stop the unknown cause and change to this section of the forest. They were able to stop the spread of it to the point of where it is now. They renamed the region and left it to the powers to be. The change in the forest over the years have not been able to be determined. The elves know it some kind of magic beyond their abilities. Since then the forest has become dangerous region to travel through. It is home to many components used for spells and potions used by clerics and mages. The coin to get these components pay good, but at a high cost. Thousands of lives have been lost in the Drowned Forest over the years.
Ecosystem
Perched at the edge of the Socrates Forest, the Drowned Forest was once a verdant region. A few thousands years ago, a marsh began to encroach on this area. As the water level rose, the forest was transformed into a more foreboding place. Shambling mounds and blights appeared in the forest in increasing numbers while the water rotted away the trees themselves. In time, strange mushrooms and fungus sprouted throughout the woods.
Today, the Drowned Forest is perhaps the most dangerous location in the region. The trees remain standing, but they long ago lost their foliage and are little more than dead, rotting timbers projecting out of the mud. Mushrooms and other fungi sprout everywhere. A thick cloud of spores fills the air and blots out the sun, allowing the unnatural growths to flourish.
Localized Phenomena
Since the transformation of the Drowned forest the area has become a breeding ground for components for magic items and potions of all kinds. The magic behind the phenomena has not yet been discovered. Much like the magic behind the Sea of Azure that has allowed that city thrived with the fishing industry.
