13th day in the Feywild - continued
We have been on the boat for, 4 maybe 5 hours. I am not sure how long we have been up, but I am getting very very tired. Xal is fun entertainment, and I had some time to make a few notes on what we saw inside Joltyrs pyramid, but the rest of the time I have just been sitting around, making some music and observing what the rest is doing. It is not much, we are all tired and I think we are going to land soon to start our 'night'. The sun not setting is something I am now slowly getting used to, I think at this point that the night will be strange when we get back to our plane of existence.
We landed an hour or so ago, we settled down on some hills and had a beer from Liya's beer-bag. Xal did not like the taste of it though, but the rest of us do. We had a laugh and now most of us are turning in. I will have the second watch I think.
14th day in the Feywild
It is really early, I just woke William up for the next watch. I just wanted to quickly write down what I saw so I do not forget. There was this hill giant I think that took a look at our boat. Luckily, he was not very interested in our stone-looking dome, so he just sneezed at our boat and went on his or her merry way. Well, this day and this watch have been enervating.
After a calm morning on the boat, we are now starting to see the mountains we are going towards. While still eating from the food we have got from the Emerald King, we sit and watch as we get closer and closer to the snowy peaks.
We landed some time ago, Baradox has stayed by the boat while we visited a small village called Humblestone at the foot of this mountain. The people there are all, well, not very tall, so we felt like proper giants walking through the streets. Still, the people seem nice. We got some winter coats, and Liya bought enough food for the lot of us. We are going to need quite some, for we will have to walk up the mountain. I had hoped Baradox could have taken us higher up, but the winds and the mist are treacherous up there, especially for a small flying ship, thus walking seemed the safer option. I just hope that the heart of that Zarathan is not too large to carry, but that is a problem for later. For now, we know that there used to be a path up the mountain, towards a castle of some sorts. It used to be called the 'path of high hopes' as the people who reached the castle were richly rewarded by the noble who lived there. Since a decade or so, the mountain has become more dangerous. It is colder, windier and an everlasting mist has been covering the peaks. Nearly none have come back safely from their journey up the path since this change. A nice thing to look forward to walking up that mountain...
Anyhow, we bought some climbing gear and visited a tavern called the Gnarled Gnome. They had some tasty food, roast lamb and cheese. Quite different from the sweet and savoury fruits we got from the Emerald King, but both have their charms.
In the end, I returned with some chalk, a new journal and a bag full of herbs to summon Mina. At the tavern, someone picked up our conversation and gave me the tip to go and visit Madame Herbtoe. She had all the types of dried plants and herbs that you could think off. The whole place smelt of mint and old paper. It is a place we should return to on the way back! Liya let me smell the tea she bought when walking back to the boat and now I am slightly jealous I did not buy it myself!
Oh yeah, when we walked back to meet up with the rest again at the boat, we - Liya, Brynjar and I- had a snowball fight with a group of children. They took a liking to me, so I joined their team! I got Brynjar and Liya good with a bit of magic and sneaky trickery, but he, it was a fun game. Brynjar had hit hot knives so it felt fair. Ah but it does not matter, I now bear the title 'Nimueh heerser van de sneeuw en alles wat sneeuw is' which is all I could have ever wished for.
On a more serious note, Brynjar and I talked a bit about who we are, and I learned that he did a lot of mercenary work at an organisation called the Prime Order. He, like Liya, lived close to Sarton with his family. He apparently is also kind of into old, forgotten and alternative gods and deities. Which is something to remember.
Back at the boat, we met up with Baradox, Ferrum and William again. And that is where we are now. We just decided to get started climbing the mountain. Based on some tips from the locals, we will have at least three stops during our trip up the mountain, so we will be gone for a while. Everyone is now packing their stuff and adding an extra layer to their winter outfits. I am not sure if I am looking forward to this trip. Normally, I like snow, but I hope we are not going to literally freeze to death up there, from what I have heard from the people in Humble stone, that is a real possibility... Well, we shall see.
