17th and 18th day in the Feywild

Session notes 26-11-2020 & 3-12-2020

by Nimueh of Mercia

17th day in the Feywild - continued

So the battle was quite fierce, I stayed in the dome for the most bit though, while Brynjar, Zolos and Ferrum went for the head-on attacks. There was wall-climbing, body slamming (which in fact did not succeed as I cast feather fall as a defensive spell), and large blocks of ice falling down. I could not see a lot of it at first, but after casting that first spell, I had left the dome and that place quickly became a dangerous zone.

Oddly enough, some other guy appeared. He looked smart in his dark blue coat, but he just appeared out of thin air it seemed. He called Brynjar his brother. I did not hear it then, as we were, well, battling a bloody dragon, but afterwards, he made it abundantly clear. Just a little more about the battle. So much happened. The dragon burrowed through the ice in the roof of the icy cavern and tried to get away from us. Luckily our hard hitters were flying! Somewhere during the battle, Zolos even changed in water for a little bit, but maybe I did not see it correctly. There was ice flying around and stuff. William and Brynjar eventually finished him off using a powerful smite and a well-aimed slash with a green flaming blade.

After all this havoc, the strange new figure introduced himself as the brother of Brynjar. They do not look alike much. His dark hair is so slick that not even the dragon's breath got it out of place and a big moustache. He does not seem to be on good terms with his brother. I did learn that he and Brynjar come from a family of five and that Brynjar originally asked for his sister, not his brother. Seems like there is some family drama there. Anyhow, Halvar, what we should call this brother of Brynjar, or 'Gold' after hearing our pseudonyms (so extra!), is not a man of few words. Repetition seems to be his thing. While he was talking and trying to connect with his brother about them having switched names or something, Liya collected a set of dragons teeth and has started looking at how to dismantle the beast.

With the dome setup again, I think we are going to sleep. I just decided to let the new guy in, it is too cold outside to exclude him. It seems less icy than before the dragon died though, but that might just be me. I am going to keep an eye on him, for he does carry a fancy book, and his cloak and ring seem to magic.

Okay, I got it, the names thing, Brynjar (who we have known for longer) is actually called Halvar. The caster that just appeared is actually called Brynjar. Just to add to the confusion of the names in this place I guess?
Brynjar = Halvar
Halvar = Brynjar = Gold
I will try to remember.

Staying awake proved useful, Brynjar (the rogue) got the book for me. So I just started to copy one of his spells that looked interesting, something about mental connections, which seems to be something up my alley.

18th day in the Feywild

Ferrum gave us a good scare this morning. He started stretching, something we have learned to be a trait of Copper. He was just joking around though. I nearly repeated the speech I had prepared yesterday!

We spend quite some time planning in the morning, that Halvar, no Brynjar must really learn to listen man. I, for one, am already getting annoyed by this guy. But I guess he and Bryn-Halvar, Rogue, share an interesting story together. Honestly, I am eager to find out what sparked this animosity between them. Must have been something quite severe, if I heard correctly they have not spoken in seven years.

More importantly, Bry-Rogue suggested that we get some people, some allies to help us back in the material plane. He fears that the situation in Sarton will be getting worse rather quickly and feels like it might be clever to start informing powerful people to join the battle. I think he has a point, but I know little powerful people. Magic on the scale we as a group are able to do is, next to the wizards of the Circle, a first for me. Nobody back home has the magic of this level I think, or I have not seen it. Perhaps the clerics in Apélès, but they may also be busy there, plus the travel time would be, well, too long. We did however sent a message or Karazoth, the red dragon we encountered in Cozynest.

I got a scale from the white dragon just before getting on the road again. We are now going to make our way towards the castle.

Just a day after defeating an actual white dragon, we have now defeated an elemental being. It was, scary, but epic. Let me tell you the story of how we ended up here.
To start, we were still walking in the tunnel of ice and the new guy was being such a prick. The twit was clearly trying to be nice and not used to it. Brynj- Rogue was having nothing of it. He is very nosy, has a lot of questions. Understandable, but he pops up here, in the middle of nowhere in the Feywild, where you should be sparse with your information as some (read every one) says, and he comes here posing all these questions. But less about that and more about cool castles and monsters. Once we reached the castle, the wizard used some eye-spy spell to scout ahead in the castle. After that, we went into the icy palace. The roofs and all were covered in this layer of ice, making it refract all the light from the setting sun. It was rather beautiful if I am honest. There were however dead ice giants laying around this castle, which was less romantic. In the castle itself, we found the throne room, with a figure atop of it. He looked like a nobleman, clearly frozen and looked conserved in the ice, but no longer alive. Ferrum checked using a spell of some sorts and confirmed it. He was, however, wearing a type of headband, elegant and gold and some signet rings.

To sketch an image, the entire throneroom was frozen. Ice with coins, weaponry and people embedded in it. The ice did seem to show the first signs of melting, but Ferrum and Zolos did their best cutting through it and it was still a lot of work. While the two of them cut the ice for coins, Bryn-Halvar THE ROGUE and I try to get out a small chest that gives off an interesting aura. I could not help much with melting it out, the hot swords work better than my small daggers, so I decided to get some good use of my detect magic. This caused something interesting. As I walked past the statues, all different figures of lore and heroic stories, a voice popped up in our heads. "They have found me brother, let's stop them".

That caused a battle to ensue. Two angelic forms appeared, speaking to one another through some kind of telepathy on a frequency we all could hear. Things about one of us hiding, about them needing aid and them trying to flee. After quite some shots, some heavy beatings from the barbarians in our party one of them was down and slowly turning into dust and feathers, while the other fled flying right through the stained glass window.

We had no idea what they were or what it meant at that moment in time, but we were hurting quite a bit. After sitting down for a while we all felt better and we had even retrieved quite some cool things by slowly melting the ice, or by fiercely smashing into it, as the Captain and Ferrum did. The chest that Rogue and I found contained a set of magical inks! I wish I was a better artist, then I would have been able to create some great things with them!

It was after this short rest that we split up, the wizard, Liya, William and I made our way towards to library that was spotted earlier. The light in that library was stunning, it is quite the aesthetic to have this silent and somewhat dusty library with the light of the setting sun shining in. The fact that the skies were clear was then noted by Liya. The perishing of the dragon maybe also caused these clear skies? It had quite an influence on its surroundings in terms of climate. Anyhow, Halvar, well the wizard found a journal without a name on or in it and told the story of someone who was looking to make people happy by providing them with all they wanted. Doing this would help him practice his belief in Ulutiu, hoping to maybe free(?) the god. Strange. The unnamed writer is most certainly the King of High Hopes, or at least it is about him. The rest of the notes were mostly about the way to acquire such wealth to be able to provide anyone with anything they ever wanted. Through making use of another plane with gold and gems in abundance and mining it there. Given the fact that we are most likely standing on the -or a- nexus with the earth elemental plane, it is not strange to suppose it is that plane he is writing about. The rest of the notes is about some other creature that used to be here before, a giant or something.

Next to this journal, we found a book about good and evil. It was rather interesting but the points the writer was making slowly became less and less intelligible. In the end, we were just discussing the classic moral dilemmas and we were not getting anywhere. Eventually, I just cut out of the conversation. Liya and Halvar continued discussing faith. I picked up a thing or two about Halvar not believing in anything and saying that you can just determine your norms and values yourself. I find that a strange notion, there is proof the gods exist, there should be one whos values and what not feel 'good' to you? Then you can still determine if you want to follow their rules or guidelines or what you want to call them and be happy. I know for a fact that I have gotten myself in a strange situation regarding gods and other powerful beings, but I was raised worshipping Selûne and I still feel connected to her, even though I now have a stronger connection with The Bard. Anyhow, I am ramble-writing.

More importantly, the rest found their way to, what seemed to be the summoning circle. They came to get us soon after. Let me continue in my other journal.
