14th day in the Feywild - continued
It is not possible to write while walking up this mountain, so I will have to describe the entire day from memory now that we are safely in the hunter's hut we have chosen to stay in for the night.
Well, after our visit to Humblestone, we decided to use the daylight left to get up the mountain. Okay actually we have all the daylight we like but the time we still want to be awake. That amount of time dwindled away quickly as the snow slowly seeped into our boots. The snow quickly was up to our shins, making walking very tiring. We stuck close together and followed in Ferrums footsteps. Brynjar used Odin, the falcon who is better adapted to the cold and wind than the currently bat-shaped Mina, to scout ahead.
Thanks to that scouting, we were aware of most of the things that laid ahead. One of these things was a white memorial stone "To all who have lost their lives on the Path of High Hopes". We took a moment to pay our respect. Brynjar built a small tower of stones in front of the monument, while the others nodded to touched the stone briefly. I did too, hoping we would not become part of the group for who this stone was placed.
As we continued our way, we were alerted of a building not much further up the mountain. At this point, the snow was too deep for Liya to walk in, so she got up to Ferrums shoulder. We ploughed the last part through the snow to the small hut. After investigating the place, we decided to sleep here and continue our journey after a good night sleep.
And that is where we are now.
Ferrum lighted the fire and Liya just made some tea with herbs Brynjar found near the fireplace. It seems to be a small hunters hut but designed for those travelling up the path of high hopes, as one of the resting places.
After investigating a bit we find a stash of firewood, and a couple of bedrolls. Even a hat and a strange necklace hang on a coat rack! Ferrum noted that the necklace has the symbol of Ulutiu on it, the god of snow, protection and animals. I had never heard of him before.
Ferrum and I had the first watch, and it is a quiet one. We talked a bit about this first day and speculate about the ones ahead. I just put an alarm around Ferrum, just in case, the rest we will think about tomorrow.
15th day in the feywild
That was two weeks here. It feels weird to have not even been gone for a day in our plane. Even with all that time, it feels like we have too little. Brynjar mentioned it might be smart to start calling in any help we can find for our side of the fight, with the Undead King approaching fast. It suddenly feels much closer than it has been the past few days. We would almost forget why we are here with all the people we meet and the things we do here.
After light breakfast and a heavy conversation, we refill the stock of firewood and clean out the hut as well as possible, after which we hit the road again. It is still snowing, the path we walked yesterday is barely visible, you would not know people passed over it mere hours ago. But my fingers are getting cold.
Okay, we are resting for the night once again. These days feel short and long at the same time. Well, let us see what we saw and did today. After leaving the hut, we were walking for a couple of hours, when we passed through a kind of valley. The mountain we were one was steep on one side, the valley between our mountain and the mountain next to it on the other side. The wind blew hard between the two peaks and we did our best to keep our hopes up.
None of us wanted to give in, thus we walked for, it must have been 4 to 6 hours until we really could not continue anymore. We pushed through the last kilometre or so until we found a set of snowed-in tents, standing in a circle. At first, we thought it was just pointy rocks, but the formation gave it away. Using telekinesis, I cleared most of the snow, and I was it nice to just walk without the heaviness of the snow in every step. Using the same spell, we built an igloo. I once read about those in stories and it was not too hard to do! With the tiny hut inside, it was nice and cosy.
Between us creating an igloo and us arriving, I had a less well, nice interaction. I called out to Ferrum mentally, because he was standing there with Brynjar and I felt too tired to actually call, but he responded he could not respond right now. That worried me a lot, for that meant Orange/Copper was back! I walked up to them, semi enveloped him in the snow until he spoke and told him that keeping this from us is not cool. We talked about it and we are okay now, though I fear I may have come along as too angry. I do care for Copper, he is a twisted soul but he has his kind sides I suppose. I am not sure why, I did connect with him before, but now that the war is coming closer the sides seem to get drawn, even in our own party.
Anyhow, this place seems pretty deserted. Many of the tents are old and some have fallen in. The statue is one of Ulutiu, and at the bottom lie small stones in the shape of pyramids and other small stacks of stones, much like Brynjar made at the memorial stone at the start of this journey.
But now that we are in the igloo/tiny hut. It is time to get our rest. I am not looking forward to my watch tonight, I would just like to get a full nights sleep.
Well, scratch that full night sleep. I woke up to have watch with Oranje, and he walked out. At that moment, a bright light came shining in from outside, followed by the sound of sliding rocks in the distance. Startled by this noise in the night, most of the others woke up. Brynjar, William and Liya ran outside, while I stayed inside to keep the hut intact in case of just a sound and a flash. It soon became clear that it was not just a sound. Outside a full-on battle was going on. The only things I saw was an Icy lady and two well, semi-alive creatures. Most of them were dealt with quickly, but both Liya's and Williams's feet had momentarily felt and looked like ice. I had dropped the hut to help them out before they would turn fully into ice. All in all, most of them had found it a frightening experience, and I cannot blame them.
