Day 1, the start of the race
We set sail at sunrise together with about a hundred other ships. Even though the Tortoise is in bad shape, we were not the smallest boat there. Thanks to a good team effort, we pulled ahead of most of the others and managed to leave Épibeuge bay in second place. The Airship, The Flying Lightning, is in first place of course. Weather is good and we're of to a great start. Here are the positions the crew members agreed to take on:
Captain: Sanna Finch, 1st Captain
Quartermaster: Bo, 1st 1st Mate
Bosun: Sparkos McDavey, 2nd Captain
Surgeon: Grim, 2nd 1st Mate
On a personal note, I'm relieved that we're finally on our way to Vulcrom and managed to get a head start in the race. I didn't think it was possible. Bo is scared of water, Grim is high a lot. They showed a surprising amount of resourcefulness and they all have talents and abilities that will be useful. I will try and get to know them. We need to work together and live together for the next few months and we need to act as a group. Being friends is going to be an advantage when things start to get tough and they will. There are so many things that could go wrong. Anyway, this is a new beginning and I'll make the best of it.
Day 2, first day at sea
I didn't think that things would get tough so soon. One of the dock bandits in Èpibeuge smuggled, I don't know how, a crate with gray ooze onto the ship. Signed and everything. Not only did it eat through the hull in several places, Grim lost a toe and almost died while we were fighting it. Thankfully, Sparkos was able to fix the holes and Grim was high on drugs. He managed surprisingly well and will recover. We'll have to search the ship for more unwelcome surprises. I hope this was the last one.
