He's a good kid. Was? Is. What business does a dragon have taking a small child? It took cattle, horses, fattened sheep even. It could easily take a full grown man or raze this town in a single night. But it comes in the morning and takes a child.
Evil.
They're evil. Whites. Greens. Blacks.
Vile.
They're evil vile horrors.
Is this what Reidoth meant? Protecting the natural order from what? I thought dragons had a place in nature. That theirs was an acceptable evil in the balance.
But what if it had taken a full grown man, or razed the town? What if it picked off the cattle and horses and fattened sheep until the flocks and stables and pastures were bare?
These dragons, these creatures who would tear apart families or lay waste to the forest, which could poison the waters or scorch the earth, they can't be left alone. They care nothing for peace or equilibrium.
But what can I do? I can't...I'm not strong enough. Are they? Keth, Wolf, I thought being with them would help. It has. The others? Will I get stronger with them? Have I? I suppose so.
If I stay with them, if I follow, I can get better. Do better. Be better.
With them maybe... With them I'll hunt down the monsters. These dragons.
And then...
We'll kill them all.
