Pizol Springs
Formally known as Fort Pitzovtolos-Endolar, that name proved too much of a mouthful for the locals who took to naming it Pizol Springs or just 'The springs'. The Duke and his ruling family are notoriously reclusive and no one has seen the Duchess Pitzovtolos in a decade.
The town by the lakeside does a healthy business in mining iron, gemstones and other obsidian byproducts, and fish from the mountain lakes. As it is much cheaper to move processed goods downstream than bulk iron ingots, the town has developed some limited smithing industry. While the duchy's determination to avoid use of slave or underpaid labour makes it difficult for its industry to compete with surrounding kingdoms, goods crafted here do have a reputation for being high quality and reliable, if a bit expensive.
This mountain fortress features a sizable lakeside port and docking facilities. The undercurrents near Mount Pizol keep the south reaches of Lake Pizol relatively warm and flowing liquid all year round despite the elevation. Underground canals have been dug around the volcano base to connect to the eastern and southern channels and trade ships regularly sail north to Tenston in the warmer months. These waterways are critical as when the local road passes aren't blocked by blizzards and ice, they're being assaulted with lava flows from Mt Pizol's latest outburst.
