The Serpent's Teeth
"Home of Freeport, the city of pirates..."
THE FRAGMENTS
In the middle of the World Sea, east of Hariel Minuta and southwest of Golthien, lies the island cluster called The Serpent's Teeth (or The Fragments). These isles are considered lawless by those of more civilized nations. The isles also harbor the majority of Gothenya's high seas pirates. The most famous city on the isles is Freeport, located on the dominant island of A'Val. Freeport is the last major city and dock (of any real size) along the oceanic journey between Hariel and Golthien. As such, it is home to outcasts and visitors from many nations, and is a largely neutral territory. Freeport and the Serpent Isles are detailed in the supplement "A Pirate's Guide to Freeport." A'Val The City of Freeport lies on the southern beach of A'Val, the largest island in the area. The Island is shaped almost like the figure 8, and runs about four miles across from north to south. It is about two miles wide at its widest point and barely a single mile at its narrowest Leeward Leeward is the second largest island. There have been several attempts to establish a rivaling city to Freeport, called Libertyville on Leeward, but so far each attempt has failed. There are few who travel to Leeward these days, except to hunt or to get some distance, but not too much to Freeport. Windward This is the third largest island, only slightly smaller than Leeward. There is a small settlement on the island, but it is constantly troubled by conflicts between the aquatic races in the area. T'Wik This tiny island is by far the smallest of the four islands. It is located just south of A'Val, and is where the lighthouse is been constructed. It is said that the Serpent's Teeth isles were once a single continent, but it was broken into pieces when Krytuss, The Lord of Corruption, made his way east after the Sundering, trampling all in his path and causing seismic shifts. Other cities and towns within "The Fragments" include Saltere and Truce.FORMATION
The Fragments are said to have once been one small continent of its own, known by the name of Khone. The lands of Khone were busy with sea trade and populated by law abiding families ruled under the banner of a single, harmonious nation. Then came The Sundering... After the cataclysm that rocked Mount Celene (and the world), several gods escaped the holy mountain. A few died, but several disappeared entirely. One such god, Krytuss, is said to have traversed the World Sea, injured and looking for a place to rest. As he flew over the deep waters of the ocean, he eventually saw the lands of Khone. Hurt as he was, he crashed down upon the continent, the impact of which instantly shattered the lands into the "fragments" know today as The Serpent's Teeth. But Krytuss found not what he sought in the broken lands, so he pushed forth, heading north (eventually to become frozen in the ice beneath the Demon Isles), leaving destruction in his wake. Many of the people of Khone died in the tumult of Krytuss' brief visit. And as many of the survivors fled to Golthein, only the most hardy remained. Soon, the newly formed isles turned to piracy in order to make ends meet. Thus evolved the Serpent's Teeth we know of today.Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
