Bitterstone Bluff

Situated atop one of the tallest mesas on the eastern edge of the Pridelands, Bitterstone Bluff is the ancestral home of the Cassini Centaur, and has been constantly inhabited for more than 1,000 years.

Demographics

Centaurs. Centaurs everywhere. There are very, very few inhabitants who are not centaurs. During various ceremonies, holy days, and other occasions, there may be a small amount of tribal humans, Loxodon, Rhox, or any manner of denizen from Tallbrush, but there are very few non-centaur inhabitants of Bitterstone.

Defences

Situated atop a large bluff with only one truly traversable path to it's peak makes for both a large defensible advantage, as well as a major drawback during a siege; however, with the flat top of the mesa being suitable for farmland, and large portions hollowed out for water storage, it becomes a rather difficult nut to crack, as the expression goes.

A sixteen foot limestone-and-mortar wall was erected in 201, at great expense to the Cassini, in order to more fully defend their ancestral home; it's walls nearly 3 feet thick and able to withstand the pummeling of any siege artillery; however slim the odds might be of artillery actually making it's way to the top of the pathway.

Points of interest

Within the mesas surrounding Bitterstone are several large caverns, each rife with an other-worldly substance known as Driftstone. It is a relatively unknown substance, with little known use, but the Cassini Centaur jealously guard these greenish rocks, ensuring no outsider enters the caves and attempts to mine it for themselves.

Atop the mesa, within the center of town, is a strange obelisk-like object, who's purpose is known only to a few of the clan's elders and shaman; they are often seen gathering around it before and during the multitude of powerful storms which ravage the plains.

Geography

The cliff of Bitterstone is, geologically speaking, a horst. As the plateau abruptly ends in cliffs steeply falling about 1,300 feet to the east and about 300 feet to the west, the natural approaches to the fortress are very difficult to navigate. The top of the mesa-like plateau is flat and rhomboid-shaped, nearly a square mile.
