Narsetti

Nestled along the southern shores of the Pridelands, Narsetti is both the southern-most permanently occupied city on the whole of Kermoria, and the only deep-water port for almost five hundred miles.  It bustles with activity night and day, loading and offloading grain, vegetables, lumber, ores, as well as significant amounts of both flax and cotton for export nearly everywhere in the world.

Demographics

While Narsetti was originally a village of hippo-like Giff, it eventually spread to be a bustling city of nearly 25,000.  Giff still remain a large percentage of the permanent residents, though there is a large, and growing, community of just about every race seen in the Pridelands, each vying for a small scrap of the trade that passes through.

Government

Narsetti is a fairly lawless place, full of gangs, tribes, clans, and a multitude of underground syndicates; when wrongdoers are brought to justice, it is usually by a vigilante group and not by any sort of actual law organization.

Justice is harsh in Narsetti, with common punishments involving banishment, being used as entertainment in a pit-fighting arena, or simply being hung (or other gruesome ways to die, depending on the crime).

Defences

As a hub of both trade and transportation, Narsetti is well defended both by the natural lay of the land, as well as thick walls made of sun-dried clay.  There is a small, meagerly trained city guard force for those walls and what few siege weapons they wield, but the majority of the city's defense is the rag-tag militia made up of the citizens and workers within the city.

There have been few real attempts at invasion or siege, and no major threat has befallen Narsetti since the days of Lyras.

Infrastructure

Narsetti features a number of dockyards to allow for even the deepest-draft vessels to dock; it is also home to the only large shipbuilding facility in the Pridelands, Menalar Shipyards.  Much of the city's infrastructure is built around the dockyards, with roads leading this way and that between the warehouses, storage yards, and caravanserai.

Tourism

Narsetti itself is not much to look at, and very few people travel there just to see it's sights.  However, as the only major deepwater port for hundreds of miles, it is a vital place for tourists, travelers, and merchants to pass through on their way into, or out of, the Lower Kingdom.  As such, thousands of transients visit it's docks and it's streets each year, though very few are there as tourists of Narsetti proper.
