Dren
Dren served as a temple guard most of his life. He acted as a pilgrim escort travelling across The Thousand Lakes and making it as far as the gates to The Holy Isle. In his later years, he was given the honour of working for the royal family and ordered to watch the princess. He watched Avani Commaln grow up but always at a distance since they were all forbidden from talking to her by Father Aldwin.
When Avani reached her fourteenth year she was sent to live in the town in a house staffed by strangers. It was a lonely life for the child and it pained Dren to see her so but he followed his orders aware that if he broke them he would be removed.
A life of service meant that Dren never had a chance of a family of his own. He had no experience in raising a child but he did his best with Cosi. It wasn't always easy, a toddler can run rings around a younger man but Dren found ways to tire the child out. As soon as Cosi was able to walk, Dren took him hunting in the forest and tried to teach him everything that he knew. Their relationship was a troubled one with Cosi taking his anger out on him but Dren loved him nonetheless.

When Dren died Cosi dug his grave and pushed a boulder up from the stream to act as a marker. At some point in the labour, Cosi realised he'd lost the closest he would ever have to a father and when the boulder finally came to rest it was streaked with tears.
