Red Fang Chapter 38
It was cold and exposed out on the marsh and everyone slept fitfully, including Seagar who dozed propped up against a tree with his sword resting on his lap. A few of the priests huddled under a makeshift shelter on land while the others stayed on the boat.
Elise was unable to sleep and was awake as the dawn slowly filled the eastern sky. Birds flitted among the reeds and somewhere nearby a deer rummaged through the shallow waters of the marsh. “Samuel?” Toli croaked from his makeshift bed in the hold. “Toli,” Elise said reaching over and placing her hand on his chest, the baby asleep in her lap. The young man opened his eyes and stared up at the reddening clouds, blinking as his memory slowly came back to him. “Where are we?” Toli asked as he propped himself. He was surrounded by the snoring forms of his old friends. Leon caught his eye from his spot wedged in at the prow and raised a hand in silent acknowledgement but made no move to get up. Samuel shifted under his blanket by the tiller, kicking Davey as he did so.If you'd like to read this as an ebook or paperback, please follow the links.
