Red Fang Chapter 35
The two guards stood at the mouth of the tunnel, listening to the screams coming from the other side.
“Should we go and help?” one guard asked the other. “Not on your bloody life should we. If it were one of us, they’d unlock the door.” The guard glanced over his shoulder at the princess waiting on the bridge. “We protect them and that’s it.” “I want to return to my chambers,” Avani said holding the bundle of blankets protectively to her chest. Elise held her arm and stared up at the castle. “Princess, you can hear that as well as I. The prisoners have escaped,” the guard said pointing at the tunnel with his spear. People were running on the other side and shouting to each other to hurry. “The safest place for you is in the grove. We should take you there and lock the door.” “Avani we can’t stand here.” Elise deliberately glanced at the bundle of blankets and then back up at Avani. “It is safer for us in the grove.” “It’s a trap can’t you see,” Avani whispered. “Once we enter, we’ll never leave. Toli is waiting for us I know he is.”If you'd like to read this as an ebook or paperback, please follow the links.
