Green Fox Chapter 9
The goat nipped on the rope looped around its neck while the other complained loudly about its imprisonment. For the first mile they’d been docile, but as the cabin came into sight, they fought against their captures, eager to return home.
“Stop that,” Cosi said, gently tapping the goat on the head. It ceased pulling, but only long enough to butt him in the leg. “We wouldn’t need the rope if you two behaved.” “Why do you think they ran so far?” Eva asked as her goat lurched forward, almost pulling her over. “They make a run for it now and then, but usually in the other direction. Someone from the village ends up walking them back.” Cosi swapped hands on the rope and flexed his free one. After a mile of fighting with the beast, his arms were growing tired. “Dren said they might have caught a whiff of the wolf. It did stink.” “Maybe,” Cosi said as he watched Wulka jumping across the mossy rocks on their left. After helping them track the goats down, she’d insisted on accompanying them home, despite Cosi saying there was no need. They were almost at the cabin, and he was wondering if she was going to go all the way to the yard. He could just imagine introducing Dren to a talking fox. He’d either keel over or grab his stick. “We had a pig on the boat,” Eva said, more to the goat than to Cosi. “He was a fat little thing that could swim. Is that where you were going, to the lake for a swim?”If you'd like to read this as an ebook, please follow the link.
