Old Town
The original Human settlement on the Shell, Old Town has become an ossified community of aged minor aristocrats or, on occasion, actual consequential individuals reluctantly spending a spell on the Wandering City while they attend to business.
The borough is always at best half-empty, as it is more important in Corran circles to have a little townhouse on the Shell than it is to ever go there. The rents and land values for any address recognizable as a street in venerable Old Town have gone so high that services have fully fled the quarter and there is no longer any commerce to speak of taking place in the borough. As a result of the run-up in prices, this formerly vibrant and pleasant little community has become an bedroom community of the Starboard Metro, or a suburb of Foxall.
The isolated population of Old Town is required to send away for most of its supplies, resulting in awful traffic through the narrow pedestrian streets as donkey cart after horse carriage come pressing past to deliver the supplies for Old Town's incessant dinner parties -- those parties being one of the only sources of entertainment within an hour's travel. That insularity tends to make the residents of the borough desperate for infusions of new life, new voices and opinions, and new entertainment. Back in her heyday, Clytemnestra "Fanny" Glitters would do very well in Old Town. Very well, indeed.
Notable Locations
- The Imperial Manor is the seat of the Corran Ambassador and the Royal Residence if ever the Emperor or his close relations should visit.
- The Aedile's Office is the seat of the municipal government of Foxall, Rightfin and Old Town.
- The Alto Gaming House is a quiet, velvety mansion lit with oil lamps and smelling warmly of brandy. It is not the most exciting gambling house on the Shell, but it certainly has the highest stakes.
