Port Metro

The most upscale borough in the Wandering City, the Port Metro benefits from being on the leeward side of the Zaratan in the rainy season, the northern side in the winter season, and the fresh produce from Ferner's.   While the Port Metro is undoubtedly the most monied area of the city, its reputation is cooling as capital continues to chase out the creative class. The Starboard side is "in" now, and even the blue-blooded residents of the Port side will generally hop the train to catch dinner and a show.

Notable locations

  • The Moons Public House: Possibly the most famous inn in the world, not only for its storied past but for its excellence in providing top-quality service at a range of prices from the luxurious to the downright cheap. It has always been a hub for adventurers, artists and the unconventional -- or anyone wanting to meet any of the foregoing. Lord Chaddock, Hykkil von Hickenbottom and Sylvester Stern conducted the counter-assassination of David d'Esden there. Ericus Overmere stayed here for two years under the tutelage of his diplomacy masters and allegedly has a few unofficial heirs running around. Bestselling author Alistair Crumb owned the pub before his passing and allegedly made as much money spinning half-truths, fabrications and absolute stark reality gathered from his patrons into his Tales from the Moons: an annual serial publication read voraciously around the entire continent.
  • The Anchor Public House: The rival pub to the Moons, and the one that the locals will insist isn't a tourist trap. Technically older than the Moons and with a somewhat more impressive (though less voluminous) cellar, if you really know what you're talking about, you back the Anchor in the crickball circuit and get your drink on there to support the lads. The Anchor is famously the sailors' pub in town (though actual sailors could never afford to traipse around the Port Metro these days), and the dread pirate "Freckles" Chalmers famously held court over the Red Fleet here whenever she was in town.
  • Maisie's Hostel: The destination of wide-eyed lovers and artists across the continent, Maisie's operates far below the going rate in part due to a stipend from the local chamber of commerce, who benefit from the influx of impoverished creatives and ready workers short on coin. Just push the glass beads aside and throw a rug down on the straw. Have a lovely evening.
  • Leatherneck Casino: The largest casino on the Shell and, one would expect, the least corrupt?
  • Knit and Pearl: The Wandering City's answer to Saks Fifth Avenue, this impossibly complex structure in the form of an inverse pyramid hosts most of the elite boutiques on the Shell. But really, like every place that's expensive for its own sake, it's intended for old ladies.
