Her marriage to Rafael McCall ended when, during an argument, Rafael grabbed Scott, intending to push him from the room, but instead caused Scott to overbalance and fall down the stairs, resulting in a concussion. Although Rafael apologised, Melissa refused to allow him near Scott until be quit drinking, and divorced him shortly thereafter.
In 2011, she was taken hostage by Matt Daehler during his attack on the Sheriff's Station. During the battle, she witnessed Scott in a half-shift, revealing the existence of Werewolves to her.
She was initially terrified, but after talking it over with Noah Stilinski, who had also recently learned that Stiles Stilinski was a Peuchen, she came to accept that Scott was no longer human, and became a strong ally to the McCall Pack.
