In 1993, he married Claudia Stilinski. She was an activist, and worked for a charity which supported homeless people in finding housing and employment, which left her with a deep suspicion of the police. She used to joke that she had sold out by marrying a cop, and Noah often asks himself how she would react, to remind him to always do the right thing in his work.
Their only child, Mieczysław, was born in 1995.
In 2003, Claudia's increasingly erratic behaviour was diagnosed as fronto-temporal demensia. She died of complications from the condition only a year later, leaving Noah to raise Stiles alone.
He was appointed as Sheriff only a few months before her death, and held the position continuously ever since.
