Einherjar
The Einherjar are an organization of mortals, most of whom are already deceased, dedicated to keeping watch over Dénouement. They live in the plane of Vigrid, participating in deadly Training Games in order to hone their skills and keep themselves ready to intervene in the event of a disastrous apocalypse the gods are unable to take care of. They also sometimes send their members out into The multiverse to lend aid where it is needed and to keep themselves abreast of current events. This effectively makes them a neutral humanitarian organization until such time that another apocalypse requires their aid.
Its members all bear a Ragnarok Brand, usually on the right hand, which indicates their membership and seniority within the organization. Since they are dead, they are not capable of leaving Vigrid on their own. They can leave Vigrid only by means of divine intervention or resurrection rituals. Since many of their members first came to Vigrid by means of teleportation, there may no longer be a body. Summoning an Einherjar can therefore easily require an investment of 25,000 gold or more; roughly equivalent to the price of a small airship.

History
When Penguin proposed modifications to the Preservation Proclamation as a way to put an end to Ragnarok, he teamed up with the Hands of Fate assembled in Vigrid. This gave him more than enough leverage to cow the other gods into compliance, but the mortals had demands of their own.
The most important of these demands, originally proposed by the Church of Ascension, was that the mortals wanted a way to retain their current position of power. The gods had failed, and they wanted to have a means to step in and take action should such an event occur again. This was the founding purpose of the Einherjar, an organization that could maintain power on par with the gods and yet exist outside of the pantheon itself in order to help make corrections as necessary.
