Elves: Drow/Dark

The Drow can be mainly seen in the Undertethys, where they created their new home in the Third Age, Kingdoms. Outsiders would call them backstabbers, liars and cheaters, while some of its true, they were once known as the best spies the elves had in the Second Age, Godswar. Their work in the darkness helped steer The Elder War. Now, while their skills in the darkness didn't leave them, they became very much paranoid of their brothers' and sisters' elves due to their actions from the past. This feeling moved to their internal politics, making their city-states full of intrigue and strife. The surface Drow, who stayed, are in few numbers and still work for their ancient nations as spies and scouts.   Their history starts in the First Age, The Titan War as with all the elves. The Dark Elves were created to become a part of the shadows of the world, thus their affinity of the night. Out of all the elves, they were the most outgoing and friendly and were able to bridge gaps in relationships between the elven races. When the Titan War ended and the Second Age, Godswar came, The Elder War loomed over and the Dark Elves began their roles as spies for their people, hiding in the darkness and bringing vital information about their enemies, the dragons. Even to this day, the most stubborn surface elf will admit, that if it wasn't for the Dark Elves, the war would have ended bloody or they would have lost it. During this time, their patron goddess and god, Savioress and Wise One, sired two children - the Assassin and Eternal Blade. The one who was with the shadows and a great warrior. Both of these young gods saw an opportunity with the Dark Elves, thus over the centuries, the Dark Elves became almost exclusively worshippers of the two gods. Over time, some of the Dark Elves would have moved to the Undertethys as their work as spies extended far, even long into the Third Age, Kingdoms. Near the end of the age, most of the Dark Elves moved underground, mainly by the orders of their gods and then it happened - A Father Betrayed. The step-father of the elves, father to the Assassin and Eternal Blade, was betrayed by his children. The Wise One almost perishing, he needed at least a couple of decades to regain strength and that was all the time the betrayers needed as the War of the Underworld started. Behind the backs of the major powers, in the land were the gods' shouts are only a whimper, the great armies of the underworld attacked the surface. The Elven Lands burned as the Dark Elves, now known as the Drow, attacked their brethren and other races. The war was going to be a victory for them until a great disaster struck and they were made to retreat back. Those Dark Elves on the surface, scared of what the gods might do, also retreated into the Undertethys, while others waited for their punishment. It did came but not for them, when the Wise One regained his strength, the elven parents made the Banishment of Assassins happen. Thus, the drow gods were stripped almost of all their powers in the elven realms and found allies in ancient enemies of the Chromatic Alliance. The drow did help the Icons during the Fourth Age, The Calamity but were defeated once more and retreated without punishment back into the underworld, where most of them still are.

On Tethys

There is a lot of distrust among the surface dwellers to the drow as they are the most prominent raiders of the surface, even more so than Duergar. However, there are major reasons to still have a political relationship with them as some reject their evil gods, some turning to the Dark Mother and Aspect of the Savioress and those on the surface still are loyal to the Elven Lands. There is a lot of political action from the elves themselves to stop discrimination, which is the complete opposite of the Dwarves with the Duergar. The drow might be found in many Elven courts, working as advisors or as spymasters. Those in the Undertethys have their own problems. Not only competing between each other for resources but also a religious schism with the Dark Mother. The many nations and city-states like to work against the surface by being more cunning than the Duergar, using poison, their silver tongue, and assassinations to bring civil conflict or distract the surface dwellers, when they make a raid for slaves.

First World

In the First World, the Drow were cursed by the gods after they broke ancient oaths to the humans and the beloved wife, who was an elf, betrayed her human husband, who was the leader of all humanity, by allowing him to be stabbed in the back.

Age. Although elves reach physical maturity at about the same age as humans, the elven understanding of adulthood goes beyond physical growth to encompass worldly experience. An elf typically claims adulthood and an adult name around the age of 100 and can live to be 750 years old.   Alignment. Elves love freedom, variety, and self-expression, so they lean strongly toward the gentler aspects of chaos. They value and protect others' freedom as well as their own, and they are more often good than not.   Size. Elves range from under 5 to over 6 feet tall and have slender builds. Your size is Medium.   Darkvision. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.   Keen Senses. You have proficiency in the Perception skill.   Fey Ancestry. You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed, and magic can't put you to sleep.   Trance. Elves don't need to sleep. Instead, they meditate deeply, remaining semiconscious, for 4 hours a day. (The Common word for such meditation is "trance.") While meditating, you can dream after a fashion; such dreams are actually mental exercises that have become reflexive through years of practice. After resting in this way, you gain the same benefit that a human does from 8 hours of sleep. If you meditate during a long rest, you finish the rest after only 4 hours. You otherwise obey all the rules for a long rest; only the duration is changed.   Drow Weapon Training. You have proficiency with rapiers, shortswords, and hand crossbows.   Drow Magic. You know the dancing lights cantrip. When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the faerie fire spell once per day; you must finish a long rest in order to cast the spell again using this trait. When you reach 5th level, you can also cast the darkness spell once per day; you must finish a long rest in order to cast the spell again using this trait. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells.   Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and Elvish. Elvish is fluid, with subtle intonations and intricate grammar. Elven literature is rich and varied, and their songs and poems are famous among other races. Many bards learn their language so they can add Elvish ballads to their repertoires.
