Halflings: Ghostwise

The Ghostwise halflings are very secretive folk. Hailing from the Northern Azura region, they made tribes deep in the woods and barely communicated with each other and it's because they had the unique talent to communicate with their minds - telepathically. Some say this was a gift from the Translucent Traveler as they had to do everything to survive or maybe it is a leftover gift from their creator, the Titan Great Mother. Out of all the three halfling subraces, the Ghostwise are the most "odd", rarely speaking, very serious and very much the outsiders. While most would describe them as such, they do smile and have celebrations but mainly share them amongst close friends and family. They tend to not reveal themselves as Ghostwise, unless they are sure they can trust the other person, thus the first Bockting happens, when a Ghostwise communicates with someone new telepathically.   The Ghostwise were a tribe of Halflings in the First Age, The Titan War and Second Age, Godswar. They were set to be the wise men of the halflings, shamans that would speak with their ancestors and spirits of the land - the Ghostwise. However, when the War of the Half-heart started, it is said that the Ghostwise were the last ones to throw a punch but the first one to speak that they should lead. Thanks to the intervention from the Translucent Traveler, they were saved from killing each other to the last man and woman. The Ghostwise were spirited away into the region that would be known as the Northern Azura and later the Timescar Region. There they would learn to avoid conflict and become mostly unseen by the warring races in the south. Some speculated that their need to be safe from demons of the Demonic Jungles Region was the moment they either given or found the gift of the telepathy in themselves. Thus, they could communicate with each other without speaking a word, giving them a chance to become hunters instead of hunted. The race would have good relations with the Jadeite Empire, when those started to colonize their region, building the colony of Tailos. The halflings would work with the empire for some time but more as mercenaries than real citizens because they would rather be left alone. Things changed in the half mark of the Third Age, Kingdoms, when The Great Reunion Feast brought the race together again. The Ghostwise would join their brethren on other continents, working together as one. Still, many Ghostwise would stay in the Northern Azura and would be spared of worse fates in the Fourth Age, The Calamity but once The Second Divergence, a disaster would struct many of their lands. The Timescar appeared and many of their tribes would disappear. Those that survived would flee to other places or stay and try to understand what happened.

On Tethys

The Ghostwise do not have their own kingdom on Tethys. They have many tribes and keep to themselves, rarely even leaving their families as they feel at home with them, thus very few become adventurers. Some Ghostwise tribes can be found working with other Halfling tribes like the Stouthearted or Lightfooted. Even with their great ability to communicate wordlessly, using only their mind, they don't go working as spies or scouts for others, seeing it as an insult to them. Their usage of the telepathy skill is close to their heart as they only use it with friends and family, not as some mercenaries for hire. There are some Ghostwise working with the Jollyhills nation, mainly because Bombradil touched their hearts (rather their ancestors' hearts) and felt a duty to stay in these lands. Otherwise, they can be found hidden in few places around the world.

First World

It is said that there were no Ghostwise in the First World but some speculate that they existed far south, in the great jungles that do not exist anymore.
