Mender

This island community is well-known on the mainland for their traditional cloth. It is a woollen broadcloth, akin to tweed, and it has been crafted in the same exact way for centuries. It features heavily in the island's traditions. In fact, there's a coming-of-age ceremony happening soon, to which you have been invited.   Your work is that of a mender, to whom people can bring precious heirloom cloth for mending.   The work of a mender is invaluable, and they are highly respected.   Menders are hoarders of fragments: they have huge collections of individual pieces of cloth, and yarns, threads, sewing notions with which to mend worn cloth.   You re-weave it, a skillset that should not be underestimated. It is close work, and it is isolated work: menders tend to ask for peace and quiet when they work, but if someone can catch you at a more talkative moment, you know a large amount of information about each individual and their history on the island.   Menders typically oversee the island's history Archive.
