Aasimar

Aasimar are a Race native to The Old World, renowned for their divinely-bestowed powers and natural ability to command the respect and adoration of others. They are a playable Race best-suited to Classes which use divine or innate magic, such as Bard, Cleric, Paladin, or Sorcerer (see https://www.dndwiki.io/races/aasimar). There are three known Sub-Races of Aasimar: Protector Aasimar, Scourge Aasimar, and Fallen Aasimar.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Aasimar are of Medium size and average build relative to other Races. They possess two arms, two legs, and no natural armor or weapons.

Biological Traits

Aasimar possess modest sexual dimorphism, with males being somewhat larger and stronger than females and possessing sharper facial features. Both genders have visible genitalia and females additionally have visible breasts.

Genetics and Reproduction

Aasimar are capable of sexual reproduction with both Humans and one another, but can also be born spontaneously from Human parents, presumably due to divine influence. Such an event is considered a great blessing in most Human cultures and the resulting child is often taken to be raised within the Church of Pholtus or another religious institution. Aasimar have both male and female genders, and give live birth following a gestation period of approximately 9 months.

Growth Rate & Stages

Aasimar generally reach sexual maturity by 12 to 14 years of age and are considered adults by 16 to 18 years of age. Both males and females retain a relatively youthful appearance and the ability to reproduce throughout their lives. Average Aasimar life expectancy is between 150 and 175 years.

Ecology and Habitats

Aasimar are best suited for temperate climates, but are able to adapt and survive in a wide variety of environments, ranging from forests to deserts.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Aasimar are omnivores and are able to thrive on a wide range of diets. Most Aasimar primarily consume plant products, such as grains, vegetables, and fruit, which they occasionally supplement with cooked meat and animal products. Aasimar have moderate metabolisms and must eat multiple meals daily to remain healthy, but can survive on only water for up to a month if necessary.

Biological Cycle

Aasimar follow a diurnal life cycle. They are generally active during the day and sleep for 6 to 8 hours each night. They do not hibernate and their life cycle has no significant seasonal changes.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Aasimar generally live among Human populations rather than in communities of their own kind. They share many of the same social customs as Humans but, because of their religious significance, often occupy positions of privilege and authority. When multiple Aasimar live in close proximity, they tend to form strong bonds with one another and frequently intermarry.

Facial characteristics

Most Aasimar have faintly glowing gold, silver, black, or red eyes and rounded ears. Both genders grow hair on their scalps and males frequently have facial hair as well.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Aasimar are few in number and primarily concentrated on the continent of Latia Major, where they exist among local Human populations.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Aasimar have average sight and hearing and possess Darkvision. They have high proficiency with magic and no innate psionic powers.

Civilization and Culture

Major Organizations

Aasimar do not form a majority of the population anywhere in the Old World, but exist among most Human populations. They are particularly prevalent in the Nations of Hellada, Montaigne, Sarmion, Vaticia, and Vodacce, where they enjoy the Church of Pholtus' patronage and frequently hold high positions within it.

Gender Ideals

Aasimar generally conform to the traditional gender roles of the Human cultures in which they reside. Because of their connection to the Church of Pholtus, however, females frequently hold higher status than males in religious pursuits.

Courtship Ideals

Like Humans, Aasimar mate for life and frequently formalize their relationships through marriage. They tend to marry other Aasimar when possible but, due to their small numbers, more often interbreed with Humans. The children of such mixed unions favor their Aasimar parent to such an extent that they are effectively Aasimar themselves. The Church of Pholtus actively attempts to arrange marriages between Aasimar within its areas of influence in order to preserve the purity of their bloodlines.

Average Technological Level

Aasimar are not known for their technological sophistication, being more concerned with political and religious pursuits, but are generally proficient with the technologies of the Human societies in which they reside.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Aasimar tend to speak the same Languages as the Humans around them, but are often proficient in Latian as well, as it is the liturgical Language of most Pholtist denominations.

History

Aasimar come from Human stock and have existed since the Age of Invasion, when the Latian Empire repeatedly fell under attack by armies of Orcs, Dragonborn, and fiendish creatures. Their exact origin is unknown, but it is widely believed that they were sent by the gods to inspire humanity in those dark times. Even in modern times, Aasimar are occasionally born to entirely Human parents, though most are the children of other Aasimar.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Aasimar have strong relations with Humans, among whom they have existed for their entire history. Their disposition toward other Races generally mirrors that of surrounding Human populations, though they are almost always hostile toward Tieflings. They are capable of interbreeding with Humans but, unlike Humans, cannot interbreed with Dwarves, ElvesOrcs, or Tieflings. Aasimar-Human hybrids tend to favor their Aasimar parent to such an extent that they are effectively Aasimar themselves.
