Cleric
Cleric is a Class available to players during Character Creation. A Cleric is a priest of one of The Old World's many Religions, who uses divine magic to heal and embolden allies in Combat, while striking down their god's enemies (see https://www.dndwiki.io/classes/cleric). This Class is best-suited to Races which are both physically tough and inclined toward spiritual contemplation, such as Human, Aasimar, or Dwarf. There are nine Cleric Archetypes: Light Domain, Life Domain, War Domain, Nature Domain, Knowledge Domain, Trickery Domain, Death Domain, Arcana Domain, and Tempest Domain.
Perception
Purpose
A Cleric's primary role is to serve as an intermediary between mortals and the divine. Most of the Old World's gods are distant beings who rarely reveal themselves directly, leaving Clerics to interpret their will and shepherd their worshipers. Becoming a true Cleric, able to channel the gods' power and perform miracles in their name, requires tremendous faith and spiritual training. Thus, most Clerics are well-respected in their communities, acting as counselors, advocates, and moral arbiters for their flock.
Social Status
A Cleric's connection to the gods affords them tremendous prestige and many command political, as well as religious, influence. Commoners especially hold Clerics in high esteem and frequently look to them in times of need if the secular authorities are unable or unwilling to help. Their person is considered inviolate by the faithful, who fear that any harm done to them will be punished by their god. Conversely, however, Clerics may be subjected to horrific persecution if their Religion falls out of favor with the people.
Demographics
Clerics are relatively few in number, but are present in almost every part of the Old World. All Nations practice some form of Religion, though Clerics may share their role as spiritual leaders with Druids in more primitive societies. Of particular note is the Church of Pholtus, based in Vodacce, which is the Old World's largest and most widespread faith. Sihalis and Ussura also boast a high number of Clerics, as these Nations are the center of Elven and Dwarven Religion, respectively.
History
Organized Religion has existed in the Old World since the Age of Dawn and even prehistoric Races, such as the Ostor and Quessir, are known to have produced Clerics. Throughout history, Clerics have played a prominent role in world events and been at the forefront of religious conflicts, such as the recent Eisen Civil War. With the discovery of the World Gate, many have traveled to The New World as missionaries, hoping to spread their faith among newly-arrived immigrants and Adventurers.
