Moss Family

One of the six proud families that rode south with Lord Bastion Holt and the Brotherhood of the Silver Shields during The Southern Expansion. That time of prosperity for each of the brothers would begin to crumble shortly after the death of Lord Holt in the coming decades.   House Moss is one of the only surviving families that survived the internal war waged during The Tumultuous South. House Moss absorbed many of the other Families that supported them in the purging of House Faalcone and the other families that were of the original Brotherhood that stood against them, due to the sheer number of losses in the near decade of conflict. House Westman is one of the only other surviving families post-conflict and several survivors, male and female, were married into House Moss, while the surviving ladies of House Shaw too were swiftly married into Houses Moss and Westman to keep the family's bloodline alive.   House Moss are the rulers and overseers of coastal cliffs of The Steppes from the cliffside, castle-city of Adrimor's Reach, where they have ruled for nearly three centuries. They are a proud House, but many of the extended family feel they are owed as of late as there has been little in the ways of rank and title bestowed upon their House by the Empire, particularly with rumor swirling about that the newly elevated barony of House Cahlan of Landow has perfectly positioned themselves to create a new Marquessate of Southern Lands since the end of The Salvae Revolution.   None the less, the Mosses have managed to hold themselves together since the Southern Expansion despite the rough seas that the Empire has weathered for several decades now.

Military

House Moss, because of its alliance with, and eventual absorption of House Shaw, controls one of the larger private trade and military fleets in the Empire outside of the Grand Army of Salvae of around eighty vessels today. The Shaws had a strong maritime tradition when they originally sailed the Gulf of Bartholomew and the northern waters of the Torrose before Martin Shaw was convinced to travel south by his friend and brother-in-arms, Norbert Moss II. Part of Shaw's reward was a small coastal keep and direct control of, and the right to, the coastlines of the Steppes and much of the family's private fleet sailed southwestward as a result to help clear and control the waters.   But after the loss of their successors during The Tumultuous South, many of the ladies of House Shaw inherited the familial ships, lands, and settlements. The sisters and daughters married into House Moss and brought with them these and many other assets, bolstering the ships that House Moss already had under its command, tripling their fleet size at the time.

Religion

House Moss pays homage to Selûne, Goddess of the Moon as their primary deity and Adrimor's Reach is home to a large cathedral devoted to her. Procan also finds purchase in the city and the family since the migration of Shaw loyalists to the city as well.
