A Market Journey

Today was...interesting. It began with an assignment From Haibram, who I'll get too later, to travel to the Kafesi Market tracking down some endangered Ojofiri chickens. I immediately felt like the Yamasans would take some heart in knowing that such efforts are being made to preserve the endangered, which got me thinking of Yamonji back home. I hope to show Molivia that place some time. Anyway, back to the task at hand. Illiara really came through here finding the market for us, I think she has been in the city longest so is the most acclimated. I didn't have much luck searching the kafesi but i was able to alk some people into giving me directions, and then I found that ruin had already tracked the chicks down. We started buying some chicks and trying to stall for time while our friends arrived. Malnar arrived and left his money with me to purchase more chicks while he collected Makumi and Illiara who had searched elsewhere.
 
I witnessed little of what came next but from the state Mukami was in I gather she had found a fraudulent vendor and spent her time screeching like the Ukujan wall.
I get the sense that in this sort of market those fights aren't uncommon, so she hasn't done any harm to anything but her voice, and i took her out for ome honey tea before retiring for the night to deal with that.
I managed to keep the chicks alive on the way to the Magaambya. They seem very sensitive at this age. Ruin wanted to claim ownership of one, but I don't think she actually wanted to care for the chick, so she seemed happy enough to let it be taken away. I wonder why the ownership asppect mattered to her? I should have talked to her about that later in the day when we worked together. But i was more focused on making sure we didn't have any conflicts brewing on the horizon.
 
My conversation with Ruin was rather brief considering the time spent working, but we were both engaged in the task. I also managed to chat with some of the other students though, Chizire and makumi had a strange fight and Ignaci said Chizire was scared of women. Are women treated very differently from men here? I feel like I read about that happening in some places. Weird. I ended up opening up to Ignaci about my confusion regarding the many differet kinds of people here. Its overhwelming but not in a bad way. Ignaci didn't react much, I'd describe his responses as detatched analysis.
I also managed to discuss a little with the man who tasked us with the chicken misison. He seems very excitable, in a friendly way but also in such a way that suggest he won't be able to help himself from making the occassional unwise decision. He also assumed romantic intentions when I mentioned i wanted to thank Esi, but i don't think there was anything to that supposition beyond his desire for interesting developments. It occurs to me though as I hear that I will be here for some years in very close contact with new kinds of people. Can't help but wonder how those relationships will dvelop. I never did get many crushes back home, unless i count the heroes and heroines of the books. For right now though I am too focused on acclimatising myself, studying and making friends. Speaking of friends i did thank Esi, but it didn't lead to a conversation as she seemed busy, still plenty of time.
I did have a much more fruitful chat with Makkumi as i took her out for some honey tea, We spoke of our homes too each other. Very pleasant, a good topic for me to discuss with the others. Especially since many aren't from the expanse, I'd love to hear tales from farther afield.
