Crockenwell
Nestled in the heart of the Kingdom of Velant's Flowing Marshes, the town of Crockenwell serves as a waypoint to other destinations in the Kingdom, though travelers don't often stay long due to the surrounding swamp. It is built on haphazard, varying levels, in response to the rising swamp. Whole areas stand on stilts and raised platforms connected by bridges and rotting walkways that are constantly repaired.
Crockenwell and the marshes themsevles are primarily known for the vast quantities of rare and magical alchemical ingrediences that grow in abundance in the area. For this reason it attracts aspiring alchemists and researchers alike who wish to perfect their craft or experiment, with Crockenwell serving as a bastion of civilization during their incursions into the surrounding marshes. The area owes its deposit of robust flora to The Crimson Harvest, when a large scale battle between the Infernals and forces of light ravaged the area. After the battle the area was left deformed and water from Lake Lacus in the north seeped in over the years, creating a basin and the Flowing Marshes as they are now known presently. This new wet environment coupled with the magical residue left behind by the otherworldly invaders cultivated the alchemical paradise that Crockenwell is known for.
Crockenwell and the marshes are not without their dangers, as the exotic flora attracts a number of dangerous predators as well. Many independent mercenaries travel to Crockenwell for jobs protecting harvesting alchemists for a large amount of coin, and beast folk sightings are quite common on the outskirts of the town.
Hidden deep within the swamp near the town lies the Triad's Tribute, a monument to the Lightsworn that fought against the invading Infernals during The Crimson Harvest. The structure was constructed atop a dormant hell gate, the fiendish portal devices used by the Infernals to travel into the Mortal Realm from their realm of Ashfell.
