Genasi

Genasi are an extremely rare race on Azimuth. They are a race of humanoids with elemental power in their blood.

Description

Appearance

Some genasi are more attuned to their native element than others. A genasi with a powerful connection to elemental fire might have their head covered by crackling flames rather than hair. A genasi with a connection to elemental water might have blue-tinged skin and appear to sweat profusely at all times.   The wide variety in appearance and traits in the genasi are due to their varied origins and the strength of those connections. As such, there is no typical genasi.

Statistics

Most genasi share some of the phyical characteristics of their parents. As most are born from mortal parents, they tend to stand between 5 to 6 feet tall and weigh between 125 and 250 pounds. Genasi are longer-lived, as they can live up to 120 years, but they tend to mature at the same rate as humans do.

Society

Azimuth was created by the surging elemental forces bursting onto the Material Plane, and the world was formed in masses of water, earth, wind, and fire. These origin places of this elemental energy are focal points between the Inner Elemental Planes and the Material Plane, places where they overlap and pieces of the Elemental Chaos may slip into the world. Though the divines defeated the Primordials long ago, these gateways still exist in the world, bleeding these energies into Azimuth. These exist all across the world and are often places of surging energies. Some have been used as places of great constructions and others are of cultural importance as places of rituals and legends.   Those who think of other planes at all consider them remote, distant realms, but planar influence can be felt throughout the world. It sometimes manifests in beings who, through an accident of birth, carry the power of the planes.   Genasi are exceedingly rare on Azimuth, as befits their unique origins. The few genasi who exist are created as the result of a powerful elemental influence, often through phenomena such as an eruption from the Inner Planes at these focal points. Elemental energy saturates any creatures in the area and might alter their nature enough that their offspring with other mortals are born as genasi.   Some genasi live as outcasts, driven into exile for their unsettling appearance and strange magic, or assuming leadership of savage humanoids and weird cults in untamed lands. Others gain positions of great influence, especially where elemental beings are revered.   As rare beings, genasi might go their entire lives without encountering another one of their kind. There are no great genasi cities or empires. Genasi seldom have communities of their own and typically adopt the cultures and societies into which they are born. The more strange their appearance, the harder time they have. Many genasi lose themselves in teeming cities, where their distinctiveness hardly raises an eyebrow in places accustomed to a variety of different people.   Those living on the frontier, though, have a much harder time. People there tend to be less accepting of differences. Sometimes a cold shoulder and a suspicious glare are the best genasi can hope for; in more backward places, they face ostracism and even violence from people who mistake them for fiends.

Genasi in Gimora Major

The city of Endor, the First Mountain, is popular for travellers of all types, and genasi have been seen among the city's many levels.

Genasi in Tarteria

In Tarteria, elemental energies can be found across the continent, from the heat of the Fire Spire Sands to the icy storms along the Hobgoblin Coast and the South Sea. Among the port cities and along the Orc Highway, genasi are a sight of wonder. Sailors and pirates alike take special interest in genasi, for the power to harness the elements is a gift on the open sea.   Farther afield, more tribal peoples may also see genasi as a sign of the gods, as the Stoneshatter Tribe of goliaths and the aarakocra of Mount Huma revere the elemental energies of earth and air respectively.   In the southern Hobgoblin Khanate, the genasi are seen as powerful entities with access to magic that could supplement their legions. The scouts of several clans have orders to bring back any genasi they encounter.

Genasi in Northwest Seas

In Iluvitar and Stancia, fire genasi are more common than elsewhere in Azimuth due to the natural energies located in the Birdsong Tower and the Coronata Volcano, respectively.

Subraces

Fire Genasi

Fire genasi are descendants of either the efreet or humanoids exposed to the energies of the Elemental Plane of Fire, and the most common humanoid race of parents of fire genasi is tieflings. They tend to be more intelligent than other genasi, but also more hasty in judgment and in action. Their genasi heritage can show in skin tones of coal black, ash gray, or flaming red, and hair that is either fiery red or actual flames.

Earth Genasi

Earth genasi are descended from either the dao or humanoids exposed to the energies of the Elemental Plane of Earth, and the most common humanoid race of parents of earth genasi is dwarves. Their heritage can manifest physically in a variety of ways, from constantly having dust falling from their bodies to having skin resembling pebbles, various metals, dark gems, or crystals.

Water Genasi

Water genasi are descended from either marids or humanoids exposed to the energies of the Elemental Plane of Water, and the most common humanoid race of parents of water genasi is humans. They tend to be wiser than other genasi, and take pride in their independence. Most have large, blue-black eyes, and they often have blue or green skin that is persistently moist.

Air Genasi

Air genasi are either descended from the djinn or from a humanoid exposed to the energies of the Elemental Plane of Air. Physically, they may be more lightweight than they appear, and they typically have light blue hair and eyes. They also usually have light blue skin, but paler shades are possible, and some display odd patterns in their flesh. Air genasi are constantly surrounded by a faint breeze that affects their hair and clothing.
