Prophets of Regression

The Prophets of Regression are a fanatical cult following of the Primordial Elementals. Their goal is to bring about an end to the worship of the Dragon pantheon, and they consider the Primordials the original and true rulers of Azimuth.   Originally, the cult was a reaction to the Great War in the Kingdom of Endor. In the Fifth Age, the Prophets of Regression refers to a group of four powerful genasi and their followers operating in Tarteria.

Description

The Prophets of Regression re-emerged in Tarteria in the Fifth Age as a group of four powerful genasi. This grouping was orchestrated by Beburos, who recruited the other three members: Maalik, Nabat, and Azariel.   The names of these four genasi are all celestial-based names from different cultures across Azimuth. According to Lord Lortuk, all four of the Prophets have hand tattoos.   In addition to these four, there are a number of followers, cultists, and hired hands associated with the Prophets. The group is largely underground and their actions and activites are hidden from public view. However, they were seen to be actively trying to draw civilians into their beliefs, citing shared concerns about faith and the Dragons.   In New Keeleon, these cultists wore matching blue cloaks.

The Regression

The Prophets of Regression seek to bring about “The Regression”. Beburos aims to make a world free from the Dragon pantheon. The cult refers to the Primordial Elementals as the original, true rulers of Azimuth. According to their beliefs, once the Dragons are gone, the Primordials will be the only pantheon of the world.   To achieve this, Beburos seeks to gather the Severance Keys to gain control of the Severance Siphons. Once they have done this, they will initiate a new Severance to remove the Dragons from Azimuth.   It is unknown where the Prophets are learning their knowledge of the Severance. According to Maalik's research materials, this information appeared to be coming directly from Beburos or an entity Maalik referred to as her Patron.

Locations

The four genasi Prophets were running the Tarterian Traders guild from behind the scenes. This trade guild had four primary guildhalls in the Queendom of Keeleon, and seemingly each genasi was in charge of one of them. They were the money and force behind the gathering of power in these guildhalls.   In addition to the main Tarterian Traders guildhalls, there are locations of significant importance to the Prophets.
  • Chamber of Titles: The Chamber of Titles is a hidden, underground religious shrine dedicated to the Primordial Elementals. It is located below the Commandment of Sky Guildhall in New Keeleon and is a secret hideout of the Prophets of Regression.

History

The Fourth Age: The Age of Shadow
After the Great War, a group called the Prophets of Regression led a cult reaction to the conflict in the Kingdom of Endor. As a result of the destruction caused to Azimuth by the Dragon pantheon, there was a push by this cult to reject the Dragons and worship the Primordial Elementals.   According to Zenethian scriptures, the Zenethian Champion Rita, Wielder of the Zenethian Staff, battled against a genasi seeking residuum. Stories say the battle was hard, and Rita buried the genasi beneath the Iron Range. After that battle, the cult seemed to fall away.
The Fifth Age: The Age of Beginnings
The earliest evidence Lord Lortuk found of the Prophets in the Fifth Age was involvement with the Tarterian Traders in Alena's Landing in 5A 110.   The Chamber of Titles was constructed in New Keeleon sometime around 5A 150.   At some point "decades ago" from 5A 352, Beburos approached the other genasi, Maalik, Azariel, and Nabat.   Eventually, the Prophets became the power running the Tarterian Traders from behind the scenes. They were the money and force behind the gathering power in the organization's guildhalls.   5A 351
Prior to Jeran 5A 351, the spell circle in the Chamber of Titles was used to create the Great Leviathan Bearing Stone using the Unsigned Painting of the Great Leviathan.   In mid-Jeran 5A 351, the four Prophets headed north to the Leviathan Sea and defeated the Great Leviathan. Witnesses spoke of strong elemental spells in the Leviathan Sea before the waters went silent and calm. Maalik’s journal said it took everything the four of them could provide. They claimed the Leviathan's Severance Key.   On 22 Jeran 5A 351, the genasi passed back through Porgorag headed southwards. This was the last time Gim Gorod saw Nabat.   On 2 Avedar 5A 351, four “interestingly colored” people had been seen entering Red Lake. The Prophets used the Severance Key and caused an unexpected interaction with an elemental fount. As a result, Chedae's light was blocked from the lands of Tarteria.   Afterwards, Nabat was gone. Since that time, the Prophets were seemingly more open, active, and seemingly desperate in their actions. The cult following in New Keeleon continued to followed Nabat's work even with him no longer being present.   5A 352
On 16 Adroth 5A 352, Shur and several cultists and fanatics attacked the Watermill Gallery to steal a painting of the Great Phoenix. As a result, the Lightbringers were able to find the hidden Chamber of Titles and remove the cultists from the Commandment of Sky Guildhall.
