The Dead Lands

Current Month: Julwar 2nd: 209, The Fifth Age
Located within the territories of Republica of Vercinia, Kingdom of Galvinor, and Kingdom of Vladia, the Dead Lands are where the Sundered gathered their victims en masse while the Second Fall was raging.   Unable to finish their mutations when the Nongod was slain, their victims died painful deaths, causing the entire region to become haunted to this day. Extending several thousand square miles, the dead openly roam the landscape, attacking the living on sight mindlessly. it is for this reason Galvinor in particular has such a strong Exerticius presence; they are needed to keep the dead at bay.   The wastes in The Dead Lands were once a land of plenty. The rain came north from the Galean Plains, turning the land green and verdant for several months of the year. However, two hundred years ago, that all changed. The land became the nesting ground for the Sundered on Tremalking during the Second Fall. The Sundered swarmed out of the Sky and The Ways, and corrupted it with their foul essence never allowing for the land beyond to recover... even after the Sundered were all driven back underground.   The Sundered left behind their half mutated victims as they were, who eventually succumbed to death, but weren't allowed to pass into the next life, filling the region with millions of undead. The Exertisius Spiritus had a great fortress called Kin Sundergard erected by the Dwarves to stand watch over the wastes during one of their purges.   The region however became a stark and sad place with unstable black sands littered with desolate rocky pillars engulfed in steep ridges. At night, the air grows still and the sky is alight with shimmering auroras— the time when Sundered still come out of hiding.   The Galvinorians at one point had iron towers built, over a hundred feet high, to mark a path in the badlands allowing for travelers to see the next when one is reached. The towers, now old, rusted and barely visible no longer pave a clear path to Kin Sundergard, which stands on the lip of the chasm towering at the end of the path.   Kin Sundergard eventually lay vacant by the Exerticius Spiritus due to the ever encroaching sands and intense howling winds.
