Infernal Tiefling

Race Information

"Though we bear the mark of our infernal heritage, we are not bound by it. We are the Infernal Tieflings, masters of cunning and guile, and we shall weave our own destiny in the tapestry of Faerun. Our ambition is a flame that will never be extinguished, and we shall rise above the shadows cast by our past." - Valeria Nightshade, Infernal Tiefling Bard
Infernal Tieflings, born from the ominous union of humans and denizens of the Nine Hells, embody dark power and devilish traits. Unlike their Abyssal counterparts, they inherit the calculated malevolence and ambitious nature of devils, marking them with an orderly yet potent legacy.

Society

In a world where they face universal hostility, Infernal Tiefling societies are elusive, tight-knit, and cautious of outsiders.
Hidden Enclaves
To avoid danger, these communities hide in remote or urban areas, often concealed by dark magic or other mystic means.
Self-Reliance
Facing persecution, they become self-sufficient, sometimes via infernal pacts or secretive transactions.
Defensive Enchantments
Protecting their own is crucial. They employ magic, traps, and barriers, and educate their young in defense arts.
Distrust of Outsiders
Persecution breeds deep skepticism towards non-Tieflings. Gaining their trust is rare and challenging.
Strong Internal Bonds
They forge strong connections within their hidden societies, emphasizing communal support and shared values.
Infernal Magic and Lore
Magic, especially of infernal origin, is central to their culture, with elders passing down traditions and knowledge.
Cults and Infernal Alliances
Some establish cults or secret societies, worshipping infernal powers or seeking empowerment through dark means.
Heritage Struggles
Their society grapples with their heritage; some embrace it for power, while others strive for an identity beyond their diabolical roots.
Secret Trade Agreements
They discreetly trade with certain factions or marginalized races, often shrouded in subterfuge.
Guardians and Sentinels
Dedicated members act as vigilant protectors, skilled in stealth, combat, and infernal magic.   Despite their need for secrecy, Infernal Tiefling society is rich in tradition, magic, and kinship.

Relations

Infernal Tieflings, often demonized, develop ingrained mistrust towards other races. They face hostility from humans and dwarves, envy elves for their grace, and resent Aasimar for their favorable reception. They might find acceptance with other outcasts like half-orcs or drow, but overall, they approach other races with skepticism and caution.

Physical Qualities

Infernal Tieflings exhibit a wide spectrum of appearances, mirroring the diversity of their fiendish heritage. Their skin tones range across a multitude of colors, from deep crimsons to shadowy purples, and even more traditional hues found among humans. However, they also have the capacity to bear a closer resemblance to their fiendish ancestors, with features that might include scales, horns of various shapes and sizes, tails, and eyes that might glow or lack pupils. This variation underlines their complex lineage, drawing from the infernal or abyssal realms.
Accentuated Fiendish Attributes
More pronounced features in purer bloodlines include larger horns and otherworldly skin hues.
Innate Arcane Prowess
They often possess natural magical abilities, like conjuring fire or manipulating shadows.
Veiling True Nature
Aware of the hostility their appearance incites, many conceal their features with clothing or illusions.
Ancestral Duality
A societal divide exists between those who take pride in their infernal traits and those who seek anonymity.
Communal Cohesion
Facing ostracization, they rely on their community for acceptance and support.
Sacred Rites and Customs
They uphold rituals that honor their fiendish traits and ancestral magic.
Fellowship of the Outcasts
Their marginalized status leads them to alliances with other secluded or feared entities.   Infernal Tieflings navigate their heritage's challenges, shaping a culture that balances pride and adversity.
