PLAYER RACES

RACES

Every character belongs to a race, one of the many intelligent humanoid species in the D&D world. The most common player character races are dwarves, elves, halflings, and humans. Some races also have subraces, such as mountain dwarf or wood elf.   The race you choose contributes to your character’s identity in an important way, by establishing a general appearance and the natural talents gained from culture and ancestry. Your character’s race grants particular racial traits, such as special senses, proficiency with certain weapons or tools, or proficiency in one or more skills.   Racial bonuses to Dexterity are not included in AC calculations.   On Crossroads, Player races are seperated into three different categories. Common, Malicious, Limited.

Common

Common

Races/Subraces may be added or removed before we open whitelisting.
Names as such for being the most typical races of Faerun to form civilizations, common races are what one can expect to be the majority population of any given city they enter. From the populated human cities of the Sword Coast, to the elves in the Silver Marches and the Dwarves beneath Icewind Dale, and everything in between. Typically, these races keep the company of one another in good standing while furthering their own personal and cultural goals. Although they might not get along perfectly, the common races generally understand one another's plight and work together to maintain the safety of both themselves and the lands they inhabit.   Typical RP Expectations: Common races are expected to be civilized- even in cases where they might be stand-offish towards one another. Common races generally serve the goals of a unified civilization and support for one another while maintaining the boundaries for more hostile races.

Malicious

MALICIOUS

Races/Subraces may be added or removed before we open whitelisting.
Whether it is due to the expectations of their culture, the dark gods they worship, or other unfortunate circumstances, these races have become known as hostile, duplicitous, or unwelcoming to the more civilized races of Faerun. Generally xenophobic or outright hostile, the communities formed by these races are generally seen by the wider societies as a nuisance at best, or an invasive threat at worst. While they have hierarchies by which their own societies structure themselves, these structures and practices usually run counter to the ideals of the more common races, making tensions palpable and diplomatic relations to be particularly difficult- if not downright impossible.   Typical RP Expectations: While their practices are tolerable amidst their own company, it should be expected that these races face a high degree of scrutiny when interacting with the Common races; a member of a Malicious race should expect a standard of hostility from common races and to repay the favor in kind. Their societies exist in different spaces for a reason, and even the most patient of both sides have difficulty reconciling with what the majority of the opposing sides stand for even if rare exceptions exist.
All Malicious races must start as evil alignment, with extensive RP and proof of natural progression from Evil to Neutral and Good an application may be made to change your alignment. The ticket for this is in the DM section.

An expectedly more rare and unseen group of individuals, the circumstances of these races typically exist outside the usual manifestation of society. Cultures surrounding these races are often troubled for one reason or another, be they reclusive in nature, an undeserved expectation due to their bloodline, or practices that are seen as strange to the wider races of Faerun. Though the view of these races are often wide and varied between a subtle discomfort and a morbid curiosity, there are more extreme cases in which these races are the things of nightmares for the average person. Flesh eating monsters or creatures of legend that are only heard about in story books, the more rare of the races in this category are creatures that are only ever whispered about in taverns or used as the boogieman in story books. Very little is known about the more rare races in this category, and it could be considered typical for the average person to have never seen one, let alone know someone who has ever seen one and lives to provide any tangible proof. Some people may not believe they exist at all.   Typical RP Expectations: It is not unusual for these races to be approached with a healthy amount of skepticism by both the Common and Malicious races of the realm. While they might not be immediately approached with hostility, a player of one of these races should expect to be met with mistrust and perhaps a standoff-ish behavior. The more monstrous of these races should expect to be attacked on sight, and even perhaps return the same in kind, while the Fabled races should be expected to be feared and unapproachable in most cases. These latter races are so rare that their presence could be seen as an ill omen or even a threat, and they should never be seen in centers of a large population.
