Sun Elf

Race Information

Like all of the Tel-quessir, the sun elves were close to the height of humans, but with notable differences. Sun elves had bronze-colored skin and hair most often of copper, golden blond, and black, with red more uncommon but not unheard of. Sun elves typically had green eyes, though golden ones were also common, often with a liquid appearance, and silver, black, hazel, or copper hues had also been heard of. Like their moon elven brethren, male sun elves were typically taller and heavier than females, sometimes by as much as five inches or twenty pounds. Sun elves had a reputation for being stronger but less durable than other elves.

Society

Sun Elves are characterized by their methodical, patient nature, and their society mirrors these traits. Their architecture is grand and aesthetically stunning, reflecting their penchant for perfection as guardians of elven history and tradition. Sun Elves indulge in art, poetry, and songs that mirror their stately demeanor, often focusing on ancient battles and heroic sagas. They hold wisdom and learning in high regard, with even the simplest homes housing collections of scrolls, maps, and books. Their society is structured around noble hierarchies, with rulership based on lineage and heritage, valuing family honor, magical knowledge, and the splendor of their dwellings.   Less inclined to wander than Moon Elves, Sun Elves are somewhat isolationist, often staying within their hidden realms. Few choose the path of adventure, preferring to engage in vigilant observation of Faerûn's races as scouts or spies. Those who do venture out often seek ancient powers, aiming to contribute to their people's rich lore by exploring remnants of bygone empires.

Regions

Sun Elves predominantly reside in:
Evermeet
An isolated island kingdom, serving as a safe haven for elves.
Myth Drannor
A former hub of elven civilization, now in ruins.
Evereska
A secluded sanctuary preserving elven culture.
Silverymoon
A diverse city with a significant elven population.   Other Settlements While primarily in the Northwest and Western Heartlands, Sun Elves are scattered throughout Faerûn.

Relations

Sun Elves maintain a patronizing affection for Moon Elves, seeing them as somewhat impetuous. They respect Wood Elves for embodying the natural elven essence but find Wild Elves' behaviors perplexing. Sun Elves pity the Avariel's plight and occasionally seek to offer them sanctuary in Evermeet. Their attitude towards humans and other races can be quite dismissive, born from historical conflicts, leading to strained relations. Sun Elves naturally oppose Orcs, Drow, Undead, and other malevolent creatures, as per elven tradition.

Physical Qualities

Sun Elves possess a unique, ethereal beauty with medium to bronze complexions and hair in blond, black, or copper shades, sometimes red. Their eyes are often in human-like hues, sometimes in extraordinary gold or silver. They favor refined clothing, embellished with ornate details, preferring bright colors in times of safety and joy. Sun Elves are distinguished by their intricate hairstyles and sometimes sport body paint or tattoos.

RP Guide

The Reverie
Sun Elves partake in the "reverie" instead of sleep, a deep meditative state for mental rejuvenation and reflection on past experiences. It is known that the first hundred years, Reverie allows the practitioner to view glimpses of memories of their past lives. In the Reverie, wood elves relive old memories, allowing them to experience past events vividly. This process is more than just recalling memories; it is a profound re-experiencing of life events, complete with emotions and sensations.
Elven Aging
Elves live exceptionally long lives, witnessing the rise and fall of civilizations and natural landscapes, but they experience aging differently from humans.
Sun Elf Perspective
Sun Elves see themselves as custodians of elven traditions, pursuing perfection in their endeavors. They value patience and mastery in their skills, including combat, which they engage in as a necessary duty.

Civilization and Culture

History

Sun Elves have a storied history, establishing nations like Aryvandaar and Cormanthyr. The expansionist policies of Aryvandaar during the Crown Wars shaped much of their early history. Post-Crown Wars, they founded Cormanthyr, focusing on magical and compassionate governance. The fall of Cormanthyr marked a shift, with many Sun Elves retreating to Evermeet, an isolated haven for elvenkind.

Religion

Sun Elves are deeply religious, venerating the Seldarine with elaborate and respectful ceremonies. Many also worship Angharradh, seen as a union of three goddesses.
Corellon Larethian:
As the chief deity of the elven pantheon, Corellon Larethian is revered by Sun Elves as the creator of the elven race. He embodies the highest ideals of elvenkind, including beauty, magic, and the arts.
Amaunator (or Lathander):
Sun Elves might also worship Amaunator, the god of the sun, order, and time, known for his strict adherence to law and order. In some traditions, Amaunator is synonymous with or has been replaced by Lathander, the Morninglord, who represents creativity, dawn, renewal, birth, athletics, spring, self-perfection, vitality, and youth.
Oghma:
The god of knowledge, invention, and bards, Oghma is revered by Sun Elves who value the pursuit of knowledge and the wisdom it brings.
Mystra:
Known as the Lady of Mysteries, Mystra is the goddess of magic. She is especially important to Sun Elves who delve deeply into the arcane arts.
Sehanine Moonbow:
Although more commonly associated with Moon Elves, Sehanine, the goddess of the moon, is also revered by Sun Elves for her domains of dreams, death, journeys, transcendence, and the moon.
Erevan Ilesere:
The trickster god of mischief and change, Erevan Ilesere, is sometimes venerated by Sun Elves, particularly those with a more mischievous or unconventional streak.
Sune:
As the goddess of beauty and love, Sune appeals to Sun Elves who appreciate aesthetic beauty and the finer things in life.
