Wood Elf

Race Information

Elves are a magical people of otherworldly grace, and usually of slender build. They typically love nature and magic, art and artistry, music and poetry, and the good things of the world. Wood elves’ skin tends to be copperish in hue, sometimes with traces of green. Their hair tends toward browns and blacks, but it is occasionally blond or copper-colored. Their eyes are green, brown, or hazel.

Society

Wood Elves, one of the most populous elven groups in Faerûn, embody the youthful spirit and assertiveness of their race. They inhabit ancient elven forests, claiming themselves as the rightful successors to historical realms like Eaerlann and Cormanthyr. Unlike their ancestors, who expanded with might and pride, Wood Elves aspire to grow their domains with kindness and modesty. They don't view their lands as separate from Faerûn but as integral parts of the continent, intertwined with the destinies of surrounding races like humans, dwarves, and halflings.   Living harmoniously with nature, Wood Elves use natural resources for shelter and defense. They establish territories in Faerûn's dense woodlands, settling in either natural shelters like tree branches and caves or in hidden villages made of fieldstone and carved wood. Their leadership is often held by experienced druids, with a council of elders from each family managing daily matters. These druidic hierarchies connect different villages, forming a unified realm. Wood Elves are skilled hunters, spending significant time patrolling their territories. Their reconnection with the civilized world, post the Retreat, has made them cautious yet open to change.

Wood Elves reside in various parts of Faerûn, notably:

Relations

After the fall of Eaerlann, Wood Elves became less known to other races. Their interactions are mostly with humans and dwarves familiar with the High Forest borders. Despite their seclusion, they are compassionate and understanding, unlike other elven subraces. They accept humanity's ascendancy and aim to coexist peacefully, maintaining a history of cooperation, especially with shield dwarves. They are friendly towards gnomes and halflings but bear a deep-seated animosity towards orcs and gnolls.
Orcs
Their ancient enmity with orcs is rooted in mythic conflicts between Corellon and Gruumsh.
Drow
Wood Elves view drow as betrayers of elven heritage and are reciprocally hated by them.
Undead
Elves, including Wood Elves, abhor undead as unnatural and enduring enemies.
Other Monstrous Races

They commonly wear leather armor and rarely adorn themselves with jewelry, valuing practicality over ostentation.

RP Guide

The Reverie
Wood Elves enter a trance-like state instead of sleeping, called “reverie,” where they reflect on past memories. It is known that the first hundred years, Reverie allows the practitioner to view glimpses of memories of their past lives. In the Reverie, wood elves relive old memories, allowing them to experience past events vividly. This process is more than just recalling memories; it is a profound re-experiencing of life events, complete with emotions and sensations.
Elven Aging
Elves, including Wood Elves, live exceptionally long lives, seeing the rise and fall of human empires and natural landscapes.
Perspective
Wood Elves are serene and patient, closely attuned to nature and uncomfortable in heavily urbanized settings. They prioritize natural living over architectural development.
Magic & Skills
Wood Elves often focus on practical skills over arcane magic, excelling in roles like fighters, rangers, rogues, and sometimes barbarians. Druids are common, while clerics are rarer.

Civilization and Culture

History

Wood Elves emerged after the Crown Wars, blending several elven kinds. Following the collapse of ancient elven nations, many elves chose a nomadic lifestyle, leading to the formation of Wood Elves. They founded realms like Eaerlann and sought peaceful coexistence with neighboring humans and dwarves. However, after the fall of Eaerlann and the subsequent Retreat, Wood Elves avoided establishing grand realms, opting for cautious yet compassionate integration with other races.

Religion

They worship the Seldarine, particularly Solonor Thelandira and Rillifane Rallathil, and show reverence for Faerûn's ancient forest deities like Silvanus and Mielikki.
Rillifane Rallathil:
Known as the Leaflord, Rillifane Rallathil is the primary deity for many Wood Elves. He is the god of nature, woodlands, and the cycle of life and death within nature, embodying the spirit of the forests that Wood Elves call home.
Corellon Larethian:
As the creator of the elven race and the patron deity of all elves, Corellon Larethian is revered by Wood Elves for his aspects of beauty, magic, and the arts.
Mielikki:
Goddess of forests and the creatures that reside within them, Mielikki is particularly venerated by Wood Elves who are rangers or druids. She represents the nurturing aspect of nature and the balance within forest ecosystems.
Solonor Thelandira:
Known as the Keen Eye, Solonor Thelandira is the elven god of hunting, archery, and survival in the wild. His teachings emphasize respect for the natural world and the responsible use of its resources, ideals closely aligned with Wood Elf values.
Eldath:
Goddess of peace, known for her pacifism and promotion of tranquility and calm within groves and forests. Eldath's gentle aspect appeals to those Wood Elves who seek harmony with their surroundings.
Angharradh:
A composite deity that combines the aspects of Aerdrie Faenya, Hanali Celanil, and Sehanine Moonbow, Angharradh is worshiped as a symbol of elven unity and the multifaceted nature of elven spirituality.
Silvanus:
The Oak Father, god of wild nature and druids, is sometimes revered by Wood Elves for his embodiment of the untamed and free aspects of nature.
