War of the Silver Marches

Military: War

1484
1486

In anticipation of the war, the famous drow wizard, Tsabrak Xorlarrin, brought forth a darkening over the Silver Marches. At the same time, the King of Many Arrows, Obould XVII, would be assassinated. The murder would be blamed on the crown prince, Lorgru, who would go into exile. As a result, an orc warlord named Hartusk took the throne and proceed to establish an alliance with the drow. Not long after, Quenthel Baenre brought the frost giants, two white dragons by the name of Arauthator and Aurbangras, as well as their allies, the orcs of the Kingdom of Many-Arrows, to war for claim of the Silver Marches. This group of warriors stormed the Silver Marches with veracity, leaving death and destruction in their wake.

The large army of orcs was under the command of the warmongering King Hartusk. They led a siege to Sundabar and conquered the site, renaming it Hartusk Keep for their leader, before they would eventually be pushed out. However, the surface city of Sundabar would never be rebuilt, and most of its population was either killed or enslaved. Later on, in the later stages of the war, King Hartusk would be killed by a shield dwarf, one of the Silver Marches commanders, King Bruenor Battlehammer. The war would end in 1486, and with Hartusk’s death in battle, Lorgru would be restored to the throne of Many-Arrows and a strained peace would ensue.   The war would be devasting for the region as a whole. Silverymoon lost nearly 50% of its army during the war, while many of the Dwarven Kingdoms lost up to 80% of their forces. The Griffon Tribe, having initially allied with the Confederation, lost its Great Chief Targin battle, the next Great Chief Halric pulled out the Uthgardt forces from the war. The Orcs of Many Arrows and the Drow would also suffer great losses, with the latter losing control of the city of Q’Xorlarrin to the dwarves at the ending stages of the war. In addition, a number of respected Kings in the north found their end on the battlefields of this war, including; King Harbromm of Citadel Adbar, King Bromm of Citadel Adbar, King Connerad of Mithral Hall, King Emerus Warcrown of Citadel Felbar, King Hartusk of Many Arrows, Great Chief Targ of the Griffon Tribe, Duke Tiego of House Baenre, and First Speaker Jolen Firth of Nesme. The political consequences of the war would far outlive the hostilities. The dwarves, embittered by the lack of aid received from Silverymoon during the war, left the Confederation of the Silver Marches and so would many other members, bringing the hundred-year-old nation to its end in 1489 as it was permanently dissolved.
