Session 20230309 Calibration
General Summary
Venusday, 27th Descending Fire and Saturnday, 28th Descending Fire, Year of the Mouse, Bronze era of the 11th epoch, Calendar
Fruitful Scrupulence decided not to risk trying for another town before Calibration and stopped in Abadinaba until the new year. The party were mostly concerned with fortyfying their encampent, especially as the townsfolk routinely travel to the ground to harvest the fresh prawns that grow on low growing bushes and did not want anything blocking theiir access. The ditch and palisade constructed was an exceptional example of its kind. Bertrum continued working on his forge but prioritised enhancing Bertrum Blumenthal and Lyris's Buff Coars and Nightshade's heavy hunting leathers to count as (still exceptional) reinforced buff coats.
Panola sent one of her san-herons back to Kajeth for news about Bertrum's new business there, booka were not selling that well (Sun Dappled Stone is now trying reading sections aloud while walking around) but new businesses have signed up and the business is progressing.
Bertrum's Journal
Dear Journal,
Today marks the end of Calibration, a mystical event where dark powers roam the land, and our caravan was wisely advised by Fruitful Scrupulence to stay in the relative safety of a medium-sized town for the duration. We were granted a full week in the town, and I seized the opportunity to fortify our campsite. I oversaw the construction of some fortifications and tasked young Yamak with building some simple incendiary devices that I had designed to help us defend ourselves. Next, I upgraded Nightshade's, Lyris's, and my own armor to have reinforced buff Jackets of exceptional quality.
My efforts were a success, and by the time I finished all the necessary work, calibration had begun, and all work in the caravan was ceased, except for the essential tasks. Fruitful Scrupulence was kind enough to give us a month's pay at the beginning of Calibration, as is the tradition of his guild.
During calibration, we made a few trips up to the city in the trees, and Nightshade, Lyris, and I had the opportunity to explore, indulge in creature comforts, and even purchase a book with basic alchemy formulas. I am considering exploring the field of alchemy in the future.
I also took advantage of Fruitful Scrupulence's offer for discreet conversations and asked for a raise in pay and a spot on the yeddim to build my workshop. Though he is still pondering my request, I am confident that I have proved my worth to the caravan.
In addition to my other activities, I conducted a ritual involving the entire caravan, hoping to appease the God of Calibration and provide us with protection for the duration. I believe the ritual went well, and we made it through Calibration without any significant incident.
As a final tradition of the guild, Fruitful Scrupulence gave us each a "salt cake" and watched us eat it. The cakes are alchemical in nature and cause a bad reaction to anyone who is mystically afflicted, such as possessed. Fruitful Scrupulence was worried about a young boy in the caravan and asked me to check on him. I used the guise of a medical check for the entire caravan and found nothing wrong with the boy, though I did discover a few minor health issues among the caravan.
Now that Calibration and the last few weeks of enchanting are behind us, I feel my knowledge and capability with the occult have grown significantly, and I look forward to what the road ahead holds.
Until next time,
Bertrum
Bertrum's Shakespearean Journal
Dear journal, Verily, 'twas a fortuitous week that hath come to pass! The caravan didst stop in a medium-sized town for trading, as we oft do. But lo! Fruitful Scrupulence, in his infinite wisdom, deemed it best to stay in the safety of the town during the mystical five-day event known as Calibration, where dark powers roam the land. And thus, we spent a full week in the town, with nary a worry of the dreaded Calibration. As soon as we arrived, I, Bertrum, didst set about overseeing the construction of fortifications around the campsite, for safety's sake. I set young Yamak the task of building some simple incendiary devices I designed to help us defend. Next, I didst upgrade Nightshade's, Lyris's, and my own armor to reinforced buff jackets of exceptional quality. Verily, we shall be a formidable force on the road henceforth! But alas, when Calibration began, all work didst cease in the caravan, save for the essential tasks. And so, I had no choice but to put aside my ambitious projects for the duration of the event. However, Fruitful Scrupulence, in his generosity, didst give us all one month's pay at the start of Calibration, a tradition of his guild. I didst perform a ritual with the entire caravan to appease the God of Calibration and provide us with protection during the event. Methinks it went rather well, for we emerged unscathed.During Calibration, Nightshade, Lyris, and I didst venture up into the city in the trees to partake of some creature comforts not found on the road. Methinks we didst indulge in a bit too much ale, for I cannot quite recall all the details of our exploits. However, I didst manage to acquire a book of basic alchemical formulas, which may prove useful in the future. In addition, I didst take advantage of Fruitful Scrupulence's willingness to engage in discreet conversations and asked for a raise in pay and a spot on the yeddim to build a workshop. Methinks he is still mulling it over, but I remain confident that my utility to the caravan will sway him in my favor. But the highlight of Calibration, methinks, was the "salt cake" that Fruitful Scrupulence gave us all as per guild tradition. Verily, 'twas a most curious confection, for it was said to be alchemical in nature, and anyone who was mystically afflicted, such as by possession, would have an adverse reaction to it. Fruitful Scrupulence was most concerned about a young boy in the caravan and asked me to check on him. And so, I didst feign a medical check for the entire caravan and found nothing amiss with the boy. However, I didst discover a few minor health issues among the other members of the caravan.
Now that we have made it through Calibration and the last few weeks of enchanting, I feel that my knowledge and capability with the occult hath grown significantly. Methinks I may have to share some of my newfound knowledge with Nightshade and Lyris, for they doth seem to have a penchant for mischief-making. Farewell for now, dear journal. Yours truly, Bertrum
