Session 20230424 Resting in Kajeth II
General Summary
Bertrum's Journal
Dear Journal,
Today has been a day of industriousness and preparation, as I eagerly anticipate our departure from Kajeth to return to Ardeleth. While we wait for the caravan to arrive and ferry us and our provisions back, I have made the most of my time, crafting and planning.
First, I decided to craft a replacement loud hailer for the one I had given Fear Eater. The result was beyond satisfactory, and I am pleased with the final product.
Next, I decided to create a gift for Spring's First Kill, a small satchel for him to carry precious items. Though he may be a bit egocentric, I find it best to remain on friendly terms with him, and his delight upon receiving the satchel was well worth the effort.
I then turned my attention to crafting a telescope, as I believed it to be high time we had one. I worked tirelessly, shaping the brass and using my glass shaping enchantment to create the lenses, the longest part of the process. The finished product, a folding telescope, is a thing of beauty, and I am greatly satisfied with its quality.
We also made some practical purchases, buying scrap metal to supply our forge and purchasing axes and saws for our lumbering efforts. Additionally, we stocked up on winter supplies, including cold weather clothing and blankets, ensuring that Yamak would also be well-provisioned.
My concern about the food supply for Ardeleth continued to weigh on my mind, and I knew I needed to do more to mitigate the problem. I approached a number of caravans in Kajeth, offering to craft them an item in exchange for making a delivery of food to Ardeleth. After showing them the quality of my work, I was finally able to secure a deal with a caravan willing to make the journey in exchange for one of my pressure cookers. Finally, I had the good fortune to find a retired farmer and his wife, a doctor, willing to travel with us to Ardeleth. They will be invaluable assets to our community, teaching farming skills and tending to the medical needs of our people. My last conversation with Almira weighed on my mind, and so I wrote a letter back to her, explaining my actions and seeking forgiveness. I sent it off with a caravan heading towards Nexus, but I know not if it will reach her. I left Nexus on poor terms, but I must make amends and hope for her understanding. As the caravan from Ardeleth approaches, I feel both excitement and trepidation. Our journey back will be long and fraught with challenges, but I am confident that with my careful preparations and the help of those traveling with us, we will persevere. Until next time, farewell.
