Session 20240620 Directors & Rangers
General Summary
Bertrum's Journal
Dear Journal
Fortune smiled upon us as we secured an audience with the esteemed directors within the Guild. Upon entering their sanctum, I invoked my "Mastery of Small Manners" charm to divine the intentions swirling within the chamber. The revelations were thus:
- Director 1: A steadfast resolve to keep Nexus fed.
- Director 2: An inquisitive mind, seeking to discern if we might serve the Guild or his personal ambitions.
- Director 3: A vigilant protector of the Guild's supremacy in Nexus.
- Director 4: A covert schemer, intent on the downfall of Director 3.
- All Watchers: Unwavering guardians of the Guild's interests.
- Scribes: Meek and focused, striving to retain their positions.
- Caster of Bones: An augur, tasked with detecting any manipulation of Fate.
The very walls of the audience chamber hummed with a protective enchantment, designed to shield the directors from magical deceit. With clarity of purpose, I presented our plan to quell the uprising non-violently, elucidating the successes we had already achieved. Their initial interest was piqued, and they bade us return in ten hours for their verdict.
We retired to a nearby tavern, trailed by a throng of spies and the sinister presence of a murder god, whom Nightshade's keen senses detected. This god, known as "Creaking of a Closet Door," served Director 2. We invited him to our table, where Attila and Nightshade regaled him with tales of valor, seeking to curry his favor. Meanwhile, I diligently crafted a personality questionnaire, designed to identify ex-slaves with the moral probity and skills necessary to manage the plantations and cooperatives—a task I found most satisfying.Returning to the Guild in the evening, we were met with a tentative accord: we were granted two weeks to suppress the uprising and restore normalcy to the fields. Should we succeed, they pledged to renegotiate contracts and support our claims to the plantations. They provided us with a hundred wagon teams to ensure the continued flow of food to Nexus.
As we departed, Attila was approached by the spies who had shadowed us. So enthralled were they by his exploits that they wished to join him. We made our way back to Amira's camp, where I commenced the Herculean task of establishing the cooperative, guided by my "Whirlwind of Fate" spell.
The following day, a group of parched plantation owners and slaves stumbled into our camp, their irrigation ditches inexplicably dry. We set out by whirlwind to investigate, discovering sandbag dams obstructing the waterways. I commanded our Cyclops, bound in statue form, to clear the obstructions, while Nightshade tracked the culprits to a concealed encampment.
In a display of her lethal prowess, she dispatched the saboteurs, capturing two prisoners who revealed themselves as elite 7th Legion Rangers from Lookshy, charged with non-destructive sabotage. Though they divulged little more, we sent them back to camp for potential future use.
I dispatched "Spring's First Kill" to scout for further signs of sabotage and sent a missive to Director 2, alerting him to the 7th Legion's interference and our intention to discuss the matter further.
Thus, the wheels of diplomacy and strategy continue to turn, as we strive to forge a path of justice and stability amidst the tumult.
Yours in unwavering resolve,
Bertrum Blumenthal
