Session 20230427 Just a load of treats
General Summary
Bertrum's Journal
Dear Journal,
I am filled with a sense of wonder and amazement at the incredible events that have taken place during our travels. Our caravan, led by the venerable Fruitful Scrupulence, has returned to Kajeth and we loaded up all the food and supplies, beginning our return journey to Gavirat. Along the way, I began work on the pressure cooker I had agreed to trade with the other caravan, who would receive it when they delivered another load of food to Gavirat. I am pleased to have made this exchange and am confident that it will prove valuable in the future.
We stopped at the waystation where "Burgeoning Egret" was stationed and asked her if she had decided to travel with us to the new "Serene Monastery" that the church of the Illuminated one had set up in Ardeleth. It was heartening to learn that she had decided to join us, and we set out the next day with renewed vigor.
The journey was mostly uneventful until we arrived at the border town of Fakilias, where we were again counted and inspected. I made sure to explain to them that I might be traveling back to the town without the caravan, and had my name and description recorded. During my brief visit to the merchants in town, I was able to establish a valuable connection with one willing to trade some of our vodka for necessary supplies. This could prove to be a vital lifeline for us in the coming months.
Upon returning to Gavirat, we were met with great joy and relief at the arrival of our food and supplies. I spoke with Blood on the Snow about the large elk that had arrived laden with food, which had been part of a trade agreement with Fear Eater. Blood on the Snow seemed concerned that we had been swayed by Fear Eater's arguments, and he promptly quarantined us. Nightshade was unhappy with the quarantine, but I took it seriously and made it as comfortable as possible for all concerned. Working with the farmer we had brought from Kajeth, we developed teaching strategies for the farmers of Ardeleth. Blood on the Snow lifted the quarantine when he realized Fear Eater's ideas were not spreading, and we set to work. I put together a ration plan for the food supplies and informed Blood on the Snow that he would need to enforce it if the food was to last. He thought this was a good idea. Our plan now is to travel to other towns in Ardeleth and help jump-start their recovery, as we did in Gavirat. The next day, we set out on the magic boat, with Itoco at the helm, to deliver another shipment of wood and Burgeoning Egret to the Serene Monastery. As we drove through the gate, Spring's First Kill disappeared, confirming his magical nature. We met with the Mistress of the Grey Wall and introduced Burgeoning Egret, who joined the monastery. The mistress asked me to taste a cucumber, which I found an odd request, but complied. It was also strange that they were able to grow fruit and vegetables in the winter conditions. I realized that the monastery must be a demesne and that the mistress was concerned that its magical nature was altering them. I assured her that such an effect would take years to manifest.
The Mistress told us more about the Illuminated ones. They seem to be similar beings and have similar power levels to Blood on the Snow, Fear Eater, and the Bull of the North, but with ideological differences. I find myself drawn to the ideology of the Illuminated ones, and am curious to learn more about them. We stayed the night and enjoyed the hospitality of the monastery, feeling grateful for the rest. Yours truly, Bertrum Blumenthall
