In cities and other
Safe Zones, players interact with the world through character building, conversations, and narrative
plot points. However, during missions, players will engage in intense
combat, resource gathering, and other quest directives.
Exploration
To successfully complete
missions, players must
Extract their
Guardian Framesand items they have found. Otherwise, they will incur penalties such as damaged gear, lost items, and
repair costs.
Dying or otherwise failing a mission resets the player to a nearby medical bay, but they may generally
continue where they left off.
Progression
The player must manage their
XP & Power level,
Upgrade Trees, and other
statistics. They will choose how and when to upgrade different aspects of their
equipmentand will also decide what
Bounties and
Quests to accept, as well as how to go about completing them.
Story & Plot
Many of the choices players make while playing NEXUS affect the story directly, from choosing certain conversation options to deciding how lethal to be during missions, what
items they use,
who they work with, and more. Players must carefully weigh their options as everything is monitored and graded, and their
Reputation could be affected by those choices.
Items & Gear
Players will also manage a complex array of equipment and items,
armor,
weapons,
modifications,
ammunition types,
currencies,
consumables,
crafting materials, and more. Determining the best gear to use in a given scenario can mean the difference between success and failure, and it is important to pay attention to every item a player happens to come across. Everything has
value and a use, sometimes even though it might not be immediately obvious.
PvE & PvP
The majority of NEXUS is a
Player VS Environment experience, working either solo or
as a team to defeat AI
enemies and game mechanics. However, there are also
Player VS Player aspects as well where players can compete against each other. Some instances will even be a combination of both.
Navigation
The player controls their own personal spacecraft called a
Starhawk. It is equipped with a variety of tools, resources, and amenities. This is generally how they navigate different
locationsthroughout the solar system.
Choice-Driven Experience
The world of NEXUS is always online and continually persistent, meaning decisions that are made throughout the game matter and change the outcome of what comes next. No two player’s experience will be the same because there are many different choices and paths to take, and the game itself is constantly evolving.
Morality and ethics play a large part in changing the game. Players will regularly be forced to make decisions that sometimes have large consequences. Each choice can modify a player's personal Karma value or their
Reputation with a given
Faction and make challenges easier, harder, simpler, or more complex. An element of randomness is also implemented to make playthroughs unique.
