Dread Crossing
The stretch of sea that leads to the Lucetan Ocean is actually quite beautiful, but is a constant site of naval engagements between the Castillan Navy and various pirate groups plundering the high traffic trade route. It is also famous for the yachts of aristocrats traveling the coast from Decadence Bay into the Veluthe Sea.
History
Rumors and Tales:
• Local stories tell of a Castillan admiral, Admiral Emilo Coronado, who has a rivalry/begrudging respect for a pirate captain, 'Brutal' Boyd Rogers. Years of clashing with each other in battle after battle have made them have an uncommon understanding of each other's tactics and nature as a person. Folks say that Admiral Coronado refuses to let anyone capture or kill Captain Rogers but
him.
• The strait is known for its high population of dolphins. A circle of sea-druids and naturalist groups are dedicated to protecting these majestic creatures.
• There are many tight corridors between cliffs and rocks that make passing through the strait quite perilous, especially during a storm or a battle.
• The Castillan government claims rights to any sunken treasure from pirate ships that their military has sunken, though this does not stop illegal salvaging from happening.
• Ships from other nations wanting to pass through the strait are at the mercy of the Castillan government's regulations and tolls. Laws have been made to prevent extortion of money from foreign vessels for the right to pass through.
• Yachts and pleasure cruises are often accompanied by military escort to prevent pirate raids on civilian vessels on their way to the open ocean.
• Offerings and prayers to Lucetius are made every year in a festival along the cliffs overlooking the straits. These prayers are made so that Lucetius will bless the trade ships with calm waters and smooth sailing to their destinations.
