Osterlind Wilds / Majestic Wilds

Depending on what side of the border you're on, this location is either known as the Osterlind Wilds (Eisen) or the Majestic Wilds (Montaigne). Technically, the forest is split over the border of the two nations, but due to its dense growth the entire forest is often referred to as a single place. There is a bit of contention between the two nations as to its rightful and proper name.   The Osterlind Wilds are now home to trees and growth so thick they are difficult to traverse. The forest is full of game and wildlife and, deep in its heart, the ruins of an old elven outpost are rumored to remain. Unfortunately, getting there is taxing at best even for the most agile of rangers.

History

Rumors and Tales:   • The old elven outpost has been reclaimed by the forest. An ancient wood golem still stands sentinel over this empty site, even after all these years. It knows what caused the wild growth of the forest.   • The underbrush may be difficult to traverse, but insects, small animals, and birds have thrived. Rare creatures found nowhere else have been sighted here.   • Vermin such as insects, spiders, and worms have lately been growing to unnatural proportions.   • There are some places where limited sunlight reaches the forest floor. The underbrush is less thick in these places, though some of these areas are home to extremely toxic fungi that release deadly spores to kill wandering prey so that the fungi can break it down for nutrients.   • Deep in the wilds, the abandoned ruins of a treetop town can be found. No one remembers who built it.   • There is a species of predatory animal that has learned to cling to the sides of trees and ambush prey wandering on the forest floor. Reports on exactly what it is tend to vary, so no one is certain.   • A druid circle is hoping to establish a glade here, but even they have not had much success.
