The Misty Mountains

Once a popular adventuring spot, the mists of the curtain between Ruskovich and its neighbors have filtered into this area making it more dangerous and wild than most adventurers will dare. In addition to the hazards of mountain climbing, bandits and monsters lurk in these peaks for the unwary adventurer.

History

Rumors and Tales:   • Ancient Dwarven ruins lay within the mountains. The vaults in these lost cities are said to contain great treasures, but things from deeper in the mountains now guard and stalk the ancient and crumbling halls.   • A large bandit outpost is nestled somewhere in the mountains. The government has put out a big bounty for anyone who can catch or eliminate these bandits and their outpost.   • The largest mountains in the region have many bodies of people who have died trying to scale the peaks. Their ghosts are still there, wandering in the snow drifts and wailing at the skies in the dead of night.   • Ice and air elementals roam about aimlessly at higher altitudes, attacking or ignoring travelers in equal amounts. This makes mountain climbing even more difficult, and many have been thrown off cliffs by a rogue elemental.   • Avalanches and rock slides are not uncommon here. Tread carefully.   • An indigenous tribe that worships the sky and the earth in an animist religion live in these mountains. They raise goats and are very insular.   • One of the mountains has a pit underground that is believed to be the deepest natural pit in the world. Strange abberant things are said to lurk down there in the dark.   • A lonely shrine on a mountaintop is said to hide a magnificent secret that has something to do with the Celestial Planes.
