Dear Dad,
While clearing out the mines of kobold invaders, I hung back with Edelweiss. It seems he is just now realizing he can't see very well in the dark. And since I'm one of the squishy spellcasters, I was chosen to hang back with the lantern. He is very sweet and when he demanded a group hug, he grabbed me and lifted me in the air. The goliath's size brought me some comfort (even though he says he's small for his size), but sometimes he would just run ahead. And don't even get me started on Xenyria scolding the party every time one of us walked ahead of her.
Yes, we have to sneak through treacherous areas like this, I had no problem with that, but obviously the dimwitted Dragonborn and Goliath were not too keen on following her roguish direction. Even Melecha gave up on protecting them from any sort of surprise attack. I could tell she found their obvious rebellion to be quite amusing.
"Hear that Xeny? We don't have to sneak any more" - says the party rogue.
Melecha is getting along with the group quite well I think, and again, don't worry about us, we're being careful and letting the dimwitted ones run ahead while we hang back just in case.
Xenyria did prove very useful, she is extremely powerful and stealthy, has some crazy chains that she uses like whips, and she is very good at investigating, but it's clear that the others just don't like to follow her direction. Or maybe they just don't like sneaking. Or that they can't, they're wearing so much clanky armor. Xenyria found a journal left behind by a miner before the caverns were cleared out. She mentioned something along the lines of the miners finding something "warm" in the back of the mine. We decided it had to be in connection to some red dragon, due to our next kobold attack. (Spoiler Alert! Don't worry dad, we didn't actually run into any dragons)
This time we ran into what seemed to be their leader. A kobold with bright red scales and the ability to manipulate fire. He was shouting commands to the others and kept mentioning a "She"
"She will be mad"
"She told us they would come, we must end them"
Edelweiss almost got the killing blow on the last guy, but his approach kinda jinxed him.
"Boop Boop" "This is the part where you either die.... or you die" and then he missed. It was hilarious.
We got some treasure out of it, and Melecha got everyone's daggers. She's starting to looking really... pointy. Very threatening, it suits her really well. The professor also found some strange red scale on the magically imbued kobold. The two of us investigated it as it appeared to char and burn in our hands. I suggested that they may be serving a red dragon - the "She" - and she gave them the magic and commands. There were more kobolds that surprised us on the way out, but we scared them out. I'm nervous that this mine isn't safe yet; we are speculating that it has some connection to the lair of a dragon and kobolds keep coming even after we've cleared out the horde. If that is the case, we're taking the news back to the council. I won't allow them to send miners back to the Southern Mines, especially if it's going to put Reynard's life in danger.
So we made our way out of the caverns and stopped halfway to the city at another populated mine to get some rest. But before settling in for the night, I told Edelweiss the truth. That Throden's Kobolds are not foreign chickens. He seemed... extremely shook. So then we had to go talk to the kobolds. Which were sharing the same tent as Throden. Who told us it wasn't any of our business when I asked if they were cuddling.
The kobolds shared with us that they were indeed cuddling.
We settled on giving them "shiny" things instead of money or rations, and then had a big group hug to finish the night.
Give everyone at home a big group hug for me, will ya?
Love always,
Misfortune
