Dear Dad,
Today I got a job!
It all started with a game of hide and seek with Charlie. We were goofing around the house, pretending to be ghosts and spooking each other. I can't begin to express how grateful I am to the Redfield family. Sarah and Reynard have been incredibly kind and accommodating hosts. Luckily Melecha has been paying them back with her job as a city guard, and now I guess I'm one of them too!
Melecha brought home a colleague, some freaky elf calling herself a Shadar-Kai from the Shadowfell plane. When Charlie and I tried to spook them when they came to the door, I think she freaked us out even more. Charlie thought she was a real ghost. Which she might be, apparently there's a whole lot of ghosts in the Shadowfell. But no, this is just Xenyria, another guard for the city. The two of them were given a job to help clear out some bandits within the city, and I guess I was invited to come along. I can't say I was much help in the long run, I just kinda hung back, but it felt nice to be needed.
OH WAIT
HOW CAN I FORGET DONDON FATRABBIT
Oh man isn't that just a fantastic name?? He's the courier; he came to the house to tell us travel to and from Boatwright is being restricted due to exterior dangers. Looks like Melecha and I may be staying here longer than we thought.
Oh but don't worry about the whole bandit thing. Obviously we ended up ok. It was just 2 guys smuggling some stuff or something. Luckily, a member of the city council heard the commotion. Her name's Drusilla Pashar; she's cleric of Terrak. I think that's some god of war? And afterwards, she offered us a job. One that would require us to work for the city council for even more money. Sounded like a great plan to me. So we accepted it.
I should probably end it there, but on the walk back home I got to learn a few interesting things about Xenyria and Shadar-Kai.
She's what they call a Shadowdancer
She has a brother who is also a shadowdancer
Ending up here on the material plane (I forget what it is she calls us.... daylighters or something?) was a mistake that she cant reverse
She wants to go back home to serve her Raven Queen
The Raven Queen is a goddess of death and the undead; though through my questioning it doesn't sound like she would've been the type to resurrect me or somehow stop me from dying. So it's still more likely that I just happened to beat the illness with my willpower. And the magic is just a side effect.
I'll continue to learn more from Xenryia I'm sure, and she sounds eager to tag along with us. She is desperate to find someone to take her back home, I think maybe the mages of Skyrise would be able to do that. Once we find them, that is.
Love always,
Misfortune
