Description

Appearance

Braavak was a middle-aged hobgoblin. His skin tone was lighter than brick coloring and showed signs of premature aging from elements and weathering.   He was equipped with a variety of weapons, including a longbow and warhammer. He wore an enchanted pair of goggles he used extensively for scouting.

Personality

Braavak displayed a jovial and laidback sensibility. He often showed excitement in his mannerisms.   He seemed invested in history and stories. This was shown by his excitment during the dangerous and hectic infiltration of the Urskan Crevasse, both at Chotgorrin's bucket plan and at the dangerous leaps to the base of the glacier.

Biography

Background

Braavak was a soldier of the Clan Tarbagan legion in Meenakhan. During his career up to 5A 023, Braavak had achieved a rank of Fist in the legion.

Azimuth Anthology: Vikramadi

In early Naerui 5A 023, Braavak sailed with the khanate’s fleet from Meenakhan to the South Sea on the Vikramadi, along with Kholvek, Ganbaatar, and Chotgorrin. On 12 Naerui, Braavak was present for Grand Khan Drack’s speech on the deck of the ship. During the speech, Braavak climbed the rigging on the central mast to get better view.   When Drack’s speech was interrupted by the Horn of Storms, Braavak saw other ships of the fleet impacting and sinking in the waves. He tried to climb higher to view the surroundings, but the sails started to snap and break. Braavak saw the storm was pushing them towards the coast. The waves lifted the Khartan and the Braza and crashed them into the Vikramadi. Braavak was flung out to sea.   Braavak awoke in the tundra near to Kholvek. Nearby was the wreck of the Vikramadi, and trolls were attacking survivors. Braavak saw many tracks in the snow. He called, “That’s not the only sled!” He shot his bow at the trolls, but the storm’s winds were too strong. Braavak drew his warhammer, and he and Kholvek moved in stride to attack the troll near them.   After the trolls were felled, Rendu called them into the ship. They saw few survivors remained. As the storm continued, Rendu spoke with Kholvek, Braavak, Ganbaatar, and Chotgorrin. He said the only way they could survive was if the horn was silenced.   Braavak went to the ship’s prow. His vision was limited by the storm, but tracks lead to the northwest. To the south, Braavak just saw miles of ice.   Braavak formally said Kholvek fought well. He then shifted to a more jovial tone, saying, “My! Such a handsome steed!” He fed Heitei and the worg bit his hand.   Ganbaatar gathered them and said their strengths and experience were more important than rank. He asked what they were capable of, and Braavak said, “My strength is in fighting. I fight well and I shall continue to fight well.” Braavak more was amused by Chotgorrin and wanted to see how the situation would unfold.   They followed the tracks northwest. They crossed the Ice Ways to the snow plains of the tundra. They were bundled against the frigid wind and snow, but the piercing cold exhausted Braavak.   After just over ten miles, they reached the eye of the storm above the mountain of Mösön Uul. They followed the tracks towards the Ivory Glacier and a massive crevasse on its surface, which Braavak could tell was amplifying the sound of the horn. The chasm was deep, with carved chambers in the ice and wooden and metal scaffolding connecting them.   Braavak could see dozens of trolls, some bringing bodies and stolen supplies into a chamber. Braavak wondered about the metal and bear symbols he’d seen and if it related to a fabled bear-like people called urskans.   As they planned what to do next, Chotgorrin said, “I have idea. Cho put you all in bucket, and I take you down as troll.” Braavak said he liked it. Khovlek and Braavak got inside. Chotgorrin picked up the carrier like a bucket and started to descend, and Ganbaatar stayed on the ridge to watch.   They snuck into a chamber they’d seen bodies and supplies taken into. Inside were captured survivors, including Grand Khan Drack, who was missing an arm. Braavak saw many of those still alive had insignias of the Red Blades.   Drack asked if there were others and explained how he lost his arm to Hagillr, the Lone Hailstone. Drack said there was a motion of some kind the trolls used to activate the bars. Braavak asked the khan to mimic the motion, before realizing it was insensitive.   Drack directed them to nearby wooden kegs of Dwarven Blasting Powder. He ordered them to blast them out so the survivors could make a distraction, then blow up the glacier and bring it down on the giant and the trolls.   Outside, they heard Ganbaatar’s gong ring, and they saw the trolls in the chasm react. Braavak set the powder to destroy the cage. Drack then led the survivors onto the scaffolding to engage the trolls.   Chotgorrin put the remaining powder kegs over his shoulders. He grew in size with rage energy and picked up Kholvek and Braavak. Braavak was excited for the story this would create as they leapt from the scaffolding. They landed heavily at the chasm’s base and rejoined Ganbaatar.   They moved into the large feasting chamber, where they found Hagillr. He held the Horn of Storms and had Drack’s weapon, Khavtan, on his neck. Hagillr was ready and called out, “Trolls! Kill this cattle!”   Braavak shot his bow and brought a huge section of icicles down on the giant. He started moving forward as Kholvek covered his advance. After Ganbaatar stunned Hagillr, Braavak continued firing even as trolls swarmed him.   Chotgorrin threw the powder kegs into the glacier. With the fiery smash, the kegs exploded. They all knew they had to get outside or be crushed. As Chotgorrin sacrificed himself to cut Khavtan from the giant’s neck, Braavak said, “You die a friend!” He grabbed the khan’s weapon and ran towards the exit.   Braavak climbed the scaffolding. He was hit by falling debris and troll attacks as he rushed by. As the walls and scaffolding came crashing down, he grabbed directly on the ice. Far beneath him, a bloody Hagillr burst through the rubble and slammed the collapsing walls. With Ganbaatar’s help, Braavak reached the top as the crevasse filled around them.   After the rumbling ended, Braavak wrapped Khavtan and gave it to Ganbaatar. “The true owner of this sword lies at the bottom of this mountain crevasse,” he said. “For me, it belongs to Cho.”   At Drack’s order, the group told the grand khan of the events since the storm had started. Ganbaatar spoke of the bravery of the others, and he recommended promotions for Kholvek and Braavak. Drack listened to his recommendation and promoted Kholvek and Braavak to Spear rank.   After returning to the Vikramadi, Braavak helped efforts to range for materials and supplies in the tundra. He spearheaded the effort to range farther and farther, leading to gathering much needed materials for the survivors.

The Fifth Age: The Age of Beginnings

In the years that followed, Braavak was interested in preserving the story and history of what had happened. In his downtime, he painstakingly documented these events in tiny glyphs and images onto an ornate animal horn.   Braavak began a tradition in the new Clan Bactrian. Though it would eventually lose its original meaning, the bucket-themed celebration would become a yearly celebration in Frozen Fleet Post.
