Description
Appearance
Chotgorrin had a bestial, monstrous appearance, and he stood over seven feet tall. As part of his bugbear heritage, he had elongated arms and was heavily furred with thick, purple and black fur. As a tiefling, he had large, prominent horns with violet veins. He was heavily battle scarred, and his right horn was broken. He wore an amalgamation of used pieces of hobgoblin armor cobbled together. He used a guandao as his primary weapon. After breaking out of the Vikramadi, he had metal cuffs on his wrists and ankles with lengths of hobgoblin chain. Chotgorrin voice was grating and oscillating. He was often loud when he chose to speak.Personality
Chotgorrin seemed more focused on personal needs and goals over the needs of others. This was seen as he chose to eat a felled polar bear while others were prepping for tundra travel. He was amused by others displaying discomfort around him, such as when he laughed at rank to Rendu and to Ganbaatar. He did seem slightly absent minded, like when he forgot he had horns. However, he was quick to react to situations and was cunning in battle. He instinctually covered Ganbaatar's retreat in the tundra and also quickly used the chaos caused by Hagillr's Horn of Storms to break his chains. He did not fear danger, repeatedly and eagerly jumping into a dangerous fights. Rumors of Chotgorrin believed him to be psychotic.Biography
Background
Chotgorrin was a member of the Chaff of the Clan Tarbagan legion in Meenakhan. He was known as "the demon of the khanate" and was a tool of war used repeatedly by Grand Khan Drack.Azimuth Anthology: Vikramadi
In early Naerui 5A 023, Chotgorrin sailed with the khanate’s fleet from Meenakhan to the South Sea on the Vikramadi, along with Kholvek, Braavak, and Ganbaatar. On 12 Naerui, Chotgorrin was held beneath deck as Grand Khan Drack made his speech on the deck of the ship. When Drack’s speech was interrupted by the Horn of Storms, Chotgorrin used the rocking of the ship to break his chains. Chotgorrin quickly grabbed and pulled a guard bodily into the cage and took his keys. The waves crashed the Khartan and the Braza into the Vikramadi. Chotgorrin grabbed his weapon before he was slammed into the cage and swept out of the ship by the water. Chotgorrin awoke in the tundra near to Ganbaatar. Nearby was the wreck of the Vikramadi, and trolls were attacking survivors. Chotgorrin understood their language and heard the name Hagillr. Ganbaatar called to Chotgorrin, “Can you fight with honor?” Chotgorrin looked back with a bloodthirsty grin. He attacked fiercely with his guandao, killing one bear, holding the other at a distance, and recklessly attacking a troll. Chotgorrin covered Ganbaatar as he slew a troll, then the last polar bear as it charged him. After the trolls were felled, Rendu called them into the ship. They saw few survivors remained. When Chotgorrin entered and threw the body of a polar bear inside, Ganbaatar held his spear to him and said he fought well. Chotgorrin replied, “For Spear, you could use some work.” Ganbaatar lowered his weapon. As the storm continued, Rendu spoke with Kholvek, Braavak, Ganbaatar, and Chotgorrin. He said the only way they could survive was if the horn was silenced. Rendu said to Chotgorrin, “I hate to ask this as well, but you fought well there and have clearly showed a good capacity for that weapon.” Chotgorrin replied, “Does the poor Spear ask for help from Chaff?” Rendu said they needed whoever they had. They gathered the supplies they could from the wreck. As Chotgorrin ate the polar bear, he found a Potion of Vitality. Ganbaatar gathered them together. He recognized Chotgorrin as Drack’s weapon of the khanate. To Chotgorrin, he said, “And you, a sharp blade is useless if left in the scabbard. I trust you will tear anything that you come across.” They followed the tracks northwest. They crossed the Ice Ways to the snow plains of the tundra. After just over ten miles, they reached the eye of the storm above the mountain of Mösön Uul. They followed the tracks towards the Ivory Glacier and a massive crevasse on its surface. The chasm was deep, with carved chambers in the ice and wooden and metal scaffolding connecting them. They could see dozens of trolls. Chotgorrin said, “I have idea. Cho put you all in bucket, and I take you down as troll.” Ganbaatar denied the plan and Braavak said he liked it. Kholvek didn’t know how feasible the plan was, but said he would go where he was ordered. Chotgorrin wrapped a banner from ship and smeared blood and grime on his face as a disguise. He picked up the carrier like a bucket and started to descend, while Ganbaatar stayed on the ridge to watch. They snuck into a chamber they’d seen bodies and supplies taken into. Inside were captured survivors, including Grand Khan Drack, who was missing an arm. Chotgorrin said, “It is such a state to see you in, khan!” Drack asked if there were others and explained how he lost his arm to Hagillr. Drack directed them to nearby wooden kegs of Dwarven Blasting Powder. He ordered them to blast them out so the survivors could make a distraction, then blow up the glacier and bring it down on the giant and the trolls. Outside, they heard Ganbaatar’s gong ring, and they saw the trolls in the chasm react. They used the blasting powder to destroy the cage. Drack then led the survivors onto the scaffolding to engage the trolls. Chotgorrin put the remaining blasting powder kegs over his shoulders. He grew in size with rage energy, picked up Kholvek and Braavak, and leapt from the scaffolding. They landed heavily at the chasm’s base and rejoined Ganbaatar. They moved into the large feasting chamber, where they found Hagillr. He held the Horn of Storms and had Drack’s weapon, Khavtan, on his neck. Hagillr was ready and called out, “Trolls! Kill this cattle!” Ganbaatar rushed Hagillr and stunned him, and they threw every attack they could at him. As they advanced, trolls clawed into Chotgorrin. Chotgorrin used the chains on his shackles to pull himself onto the throne. He swung heavily into the giant’s back, sending him stumbling forward as Chotgorrin laughed. Hagillr then recovered. He yelled out, “This glacier will be your grave!” He turned and rushed towards Chotgorrin, who stabbed with his blade. Chotgorrin replied, “I will stick your head on a pike!” Hagillr threw massive chunks of ice at him, doing severe damage. As more trolls entered and attacked, Ganbaatar yelled, “Beast! I will make you a Fist if you complete the mission!” Chotgorrin flew around the throne. He threw the blasting powder kegs to the back of the chamber and ignited them. Hagillr barreled towards the throne. Chotgorrin stabbed his weapon forward to hold the giant back, but Hagillr threw shards of the falling ceiling into the throne and Chotgorrin. In a last moment, Chotgorrin cut the chain on Hagillr’s neck and sent Khavtan flying. Chotgorrin yelled, “Remember a Chaff saved the khan!” As Hagillr bore down on the wounded Chotgorrin, Braavak said, “You die a friend!” The chamber collapsed around him, burying Chotgorrin and Hagillr. After the others escaped, Kholvek planted a weapon in the ice and Ganbaatar sounded his gong in honor of Chotgorrin’s sacrifice. Ganbaatar posthumously named him as Spear rank, which Grand Khan Drack did not refute. As time progressed, tales of Chotgorrin’s sacrifice would spread. The surviving Chaff would find their place in Frozen Fleet Post not solely as weapons or resources, but at needed allies.Character Information
