Acean Sea

Current Month: Julwar 2nd: 209, The Fifth Age
A widely traveled sea between Tremalking and Midway, it features the only entrance into The Gap, the water passage between Western and Eastern Tremalking.   The Acean Sea is the subject of many poems and tales, as it is the lifeblood of two continents. Travel and trade through this body of water is a necessity for many nations, and cities by its waters often find themselves benefiting from the wealth of foreign coin.   The Ocean can be divided between several island groups, each one favoring different cultures, The Zeamark islands near the Gap, primarily inhabited by Vaskerry settlers, The Gaebol Islands by Alber and the Straight of Balwyr, Inhabited by Claudians, The Salycyyn Archipelago and the gulf the lesser Myle by the Serkish Coast, inhabited by ethnic D'shar, and Aisselfost Islands, on the southern side of the Acean sea by Reikland and the gulf of Tamara, favoring those of the Reikonic heritage. Many of these islands are geographical extensions of mountain ranges on the mainlands.   The rocks making up the floor of the Acean are mainly limestone, though often greatly altered by volcanic activity that has convulsed the region in relatively recent geologic times. Of particular interest are the richly coloured sediments in the region of the islands of Antorin and Milos, in the South Acean. Notable cities on the Acean coastline include Al Sakkim, Prussberg, Donlin, Hevsinki and Valois.     Terminological history   Late tremalker authors refer to the sea due the story of Acea, legendary mother of Rem, an early emperor of Tremalking, who threw herself into the sea when her lover didn't return from war.    The Serks refer to the sea as the Hiijatan Sea, after a type of Date that grows close to the beach shores of western Midway.    The Reikonic cultures call it the Äcäisch, which is merely a bastardization of Acean.   the Vaskerry call it the Eftyn Sea, Eftyn being Vaskerry for "Left", as in the direction.
