Dadyr

Dadyr are herbivorous keratoplexans native to the plains and hills of Heimval. They stand four feet at the shoulder and are covered with a double layer of feathers: short, downy feathers under longer, hair-like feathers that repel the rain. Their coloration varies, ranging from tawny in the southern plains, white or brown/black in the northern tundra or dark, iridescent green in the hills of Ostland where they have been domesticated by the highland Ostir. They have long snouts with short, sharp beaks they use to crop grasses, saplings and berries. Their eyes are large and dark with horizontal pupils.

Wild dadyr roam in herds of thousands on the plains of the interior. The highland varieties live in smaller herds of a couple hundred. The males sport three large black horns. The females have smaller horns only a little less formidable. The central horn is straight and sharp, growing out of their foreheads. Two horns grow from the temples above their small tufted ear ridges, growing slightly laterally before curving forward to sharp points. The male horns are two and a half feet long and the females are a foot long. These are weapons used to fend off the large predators of Heimval, such packs of fleet, six-legged skrima or the large but cunning erfidur. They are also a staple food source for the nomadic Vandir tribal clans of the plains.
