Kalamaudha
In the vast depths of the great oceans dwell the largest known creatures in Ashar. From the first hand accounts of battles fought with them during the Great Exodus, witnesses describe them as sea serpents three hundred feet in length, armored with scales black as night down to their massive, fanned tails.
Their maws were filled with black teeth and were large enough to bite a ship in half. From their backs erupted two rows of spines, flared at the end, acting as oars. They had large eyes that reflected red in the dark when they would attack. During battle, they filled the air with oppressive, reverberating humming that shook the travelers to their bones. If not for the heavy ensorcellment of the ships, it is believed that the entire fleet would have been lost. As it was, nearly a third of the vessels were sunk.
Later scholars studying the historical codices and accounts of the voyages survivors widely conclude that the Kalamaudha are a type of aquatic keratoplexan, distantly related to the smaller, yet massive hval and still smaller rostung.
From reports Kalmasan explorers speak of sightings as near as one hundred miles from the outer coasts of Torvalen. This inner boundary of their range has been corroborated by accounts from Ostir, Skjoldir and Yngir hvalers and fishers.
